lines of dialogue from the PT that complement the OT

Here's one I've always loved from AotC:

Anakin: Where are you going Master?
Obi-Wan: For a drink!
Obviously reminiscent of the Mos Eisly bit with Ben and Luke. Actually, the entire AotC sequence is based on the New Hope one, since they both end up with Obi-Wan striking down witless intergalactic villains, i.e. Dr.Evazan and Zam Wesell.

And right before that Obi-Wan goes: "Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?"

Oh, and of course:
Obi-Wan RotS: Hello there!
Obi-Wan ANH: Hello there!

Luke RotJ: Nevertheless, I am taking Captain Solo and his friends. You can either profit by this or be destroyed. It's your choice, but I warn you not to underestimate my power.
Anakin RotS: You underestimate my power!

 

Well for me an excellent complement to the OT from the PT would be:

Obi Wan: Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?
Anakin: Don't say that master. You're the closest thing to a father I have.

I feel this complements the characters and how they develop into the drastic entities they've become in the OT.

There is no dialogue parallel to this in the OT. Actions speak louder than words. When Anakin overpowers his Darth Vader persona and saves his son, returning from the Dark Side like no previous Force user ever has, he renders those words more prophetic than his younger self could ever have known.

 

AOTC
Dooku: "Master Windu, you have fought galantly! Worthy of recognition in the archives of the Jedi Order. Now... it is finished. Surrender, and your lives will be spared."
Mace: "We will not be hostages to be bartered, Dooku."
Dooku: "Then... I'm sorry, old friend."

ROTJ
C-3P0: "Victims of the almighty Sarlacc, his Excellency hopes that you will die honorably, but should any of you wish to beg for mercy, the Great Jabba the Hutt will now listen to your pleas."
Han: "3P0!!! You tell that slimy piece of worm-ridden filth he'll get no such pleasure from us... right?"
Luke: "Jabba! This is your last chance. Free us, or die."
Jabba: (laughs) "Move him into position." "Put him in!"

 

There is no parallel, but a complement:
"You want the impossible" - Luke, to Yoda in ESB.

 

There used to be a thread, which I can't find, about lines in the OT that have new meaning or nuance after viewing the PT. If someone can direct me to that thread, I'd appreciate it. Absent that, this is the closest thread I could find, and here are a few lines from the PT that gave lines from both the OT and PT new meaning for me, and complement each other, after watching TPM today.


Sidious: "Execute Order 66."
Clonetrooper: "It will be done my, Lord."

Luke: "I can't understand how we got by those troops. I thought we were dead."
Kenobi: "The Force can have a strong influence on the weak minded."

After witnessing personally the effects of Order 66, I can see why Kenobi views the troopers as weak minded.


Kenobi in TPM: "What if this plan fails, master? We could be stuck here for a long time."

After the plans of the Jedi fail, and he has been on Tatooine for a long time, Kenobi says the following in ANH:

"Obi-Wan Kenobi? Obi-Wan. Now there's a name I've not heard in a long, long time. A long time."


Qui-Gon says, in TPM, "Is there anyone friendly to the Republic who might be able to help us?"

Sidious says in ROTS, "Every single Jedi, including your friend Obi-Wan Kenobi is now an enemy of the Republic."

Anakin says, also in ROTS, "I will not betray the Republic, my loyalties lie with the Chancellor and with the Senate, and with you."

Kenobi, in ROTS says, "Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!"
Anakin replies, "If you're not with me, then you are my enemy."

Now, after those quotes, it seems that Qui-Gon initially finds a friend of the Republic on Tatooine in the form of Anakin, a friend who later claims his loyalty lies with the Republic yet who is aiding its leader to subvert democracy and destroy the Republic as it is known. The truly loyal, if misguided, are sent into exile, fleeing from the heart of what was the Republic. They are now the enemy.

"He says he is the property of Obi-wan Kenobi, a resident of these parts, and it is a private message for him. Quite frankly sir, I don't know what he's talking about..."

C3PO: "He says he's carrying a message from an Obi Wan Kenobi. Master Ani, does that name mean anything to you?"

 

Padme in Revenge of the Sith: Obi-Wan. There's good in him. I know. I... know there's just... still good... in.. him... (Padme dies)

Luke in Return of the Jedi: There's good in him. I've felt it.

The line that refers to Darth Vader. There was definitely good left in him.

i really like the lines that show PT qui-gon & OT yoda saying the same sorts of things

they show how the OT jedi tried to adjust their ways and attune themselves more to the living force

 

C3-PO: Don't worry about Master Luke. I'm sure he'll be all right.
C3-PO: Don't worry, My Lady. I am sure he will be all right.

 

Mace Windu: "This party's over!"
Han Solo: "Didn't we just leave this party?"

On first inspection you might not think it's much more to this than the coincidental similarity of whimsical dialogue, but I think it's interesting that Lucas is using similar dialogue for these characters. Perhaps there is more of a connection between these two than you'd think. Here's one I can think of...

The way I see it Windu and Solo both have sceptical attitudes, particularly towards Anakin and Luke respectively. An attitude which Solo matures from but Windu doesn't... in fact it could be argued it's the reason for his death.

 

TPM: "I'm a person, and my name is Anakin"

ROTJ: "That name no longer has any meaning to me"

 

PT
Anakin: I will be the most powerful Jedi ever! I promise you! I will even learn to stop people from dying!

OT
Luke: But you'll die...
Anakin: Nothing... can stop that now...

 

Yoda ESB
"Do or do not. There is no try"

From ROTS:
Obi Wan - I will do what I must.
Anakin - You will try.

Gives me the willies everytime.

Also interesting is that for Yoda, "doing" is most important and it is Obi Wan (the winner of the duel) who does and Anakin (the loser) who thinks he will only try.

What about these guys ?

AOTC - Old Man Lars talking : From the tracks, she was about halfway home when they took her. A hunting party of Tusken Raiders.

ANH - Old man Ben talking : These tracks are side by side. Sandpeople always ride single file to hide their numbers.

And this one maybe stretching it?.

AOTC ? Anakin talking :They?re like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals.

ANH- Luke talking: Why would Imperial troops want to slaughter Jawas?


Below is a bit more intricate (you have been warned ):


TPM: Maul : If the trace was correct, I will find them quickly, Master.

Darth Sidious: Move against the Jedi first... you will then have no difficulty taking
the Queen back to Naboo, where she will sign the treaty.



The above TPM premise all in one here -

ANH Tarkin: Lord Vader will provide us with the location of the Rebel fortress by the time this station is operational. We will then crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke.

 

Brilliant. Both men were well accustomed to the habits and mannerisms of the Sand people.

Given the quotes above, Owen must have filled Luke's head with anti-Tusken messages from the day Obi-Wan brought him to the Hometead.

Which is made even more powerful by Vader's statement about "...the power of the Force."
