If they override, I'm grabbing Jason, Abel, Dan, Stover, Allston, Luceno, Ostrander, JJM, Wheatley, Jan, and Trevas. And I'm starting Sterling Cooper Draper Star Wars.

Guys, can't you see the silver lining? Now we must have a good idea of what the Kemp duology will be about! The "mind-blowing" aspect of it is how it ties into the sequel trilogy!

    :p

"Evil" and "souless" fit those well, but they did take over 20 years to be churned out, so I'm not quite ready to put them up there just yet. Now, a Star Wars movie every two or three years might just hit that spot...

I posted this in another thread but it fits here too.

Well i'm certainly not going to buy Crucible or Sword of the Jedi if its about to become fan fiction. I hope they get that. There is far better fan fiction out there then the current Universe.

Since they were announced very recently, I think they're going to directly tie into the ST.

Depends on how long this deal has been in the works, and which portions of Lucasfilm knew about it.

Guys, chill out. You HAVE the books and stuff. It will become rare and collectable, like the mythological comic books that did the whole SW story in the 70's before marvel. They aren't going to disappear off your shelves, they are forever.

Quit Star Wars? Thats unlikely for me.

That said since 2008 or so I have become less invested in the overall franchise. I've gone from buying a lot of merch, to buying almost no merch - I quit buying the DVD's with TCW Season 2 - but I do still watch the show(well most of it).

I wouldn't see myself ever completely leaving but I could see myself revolting against the Disney Version of things if its not to my tastes.

I'll quit but only to the point that I won't go out and buy/read every book, play every game, etc. It'll become just another DC/Marvel to me. I don't get invested in the continuity of DC or Marvel comics and go out to buy every trade that comes out because I know two years from now somethings going to happen to erase everything that happened before. My attitude with them is "oh this has x in it. I like x I'll check it out" No more collecting every book because it's part of the overall story or "Essential Guides" because they help sort continuity. I'll just become the typical "casual fan."

From one of the links, this deal has been floating around in various forms for the past 5 years. Here's to hoping it set after SOTJ and Crucible...

Frankly if they invalidated the EU that millions of people have spent their money on for the past 20+ years, they will lose a lot of revenue. There is still continuing EU projects like the upcoming comics and books in 2013, the game 1313 and various expansions to TOR. Making all that not part of the Star Wars saga would infuriate lots of people who spent their money and than think, what's the point?

I actually doubt 1313 will still happen, we have not heard anything about it in close to a year. *gets busy selling stuff on Ebay*

I've already somewhat given up on a lot of Star Wars and while I'll probably keep following Star Wars news, I'm already less invested in the EU after all the recent novels and TCW have done. Depending on what they do, since its all speculation at this point, I might stop buying altogether. Probably no more Dark Horse, outside of a few select authors Del Rey hasn't produced much, not sure how the sourcebooks will be affected or even the RPG and after how badly TCW has turned out, I'm not buying any more Star Wars DVDs (unless they finally re-release the good Clone Wars mini-series, then maybe).

Well, if I ever go to a Disney park again maybe I'll ride Star Tours, but outside of that not sure how much money I'll be wasting on Star Wars by 2015.

The address line in my browser makes it sound even more atmospheric: "litboard-torches-and-forks" [face_coffee]

As for me, I totally see the current EU ending -- not just "reduced to an alternate universe" but ending for good, because who (other than Hav and his team) would go on publishing in an overwritten continuity? Which is a pity, because the EU as it stands (or wobbles) now is an impressive achievement of sort-of-coherence over many different genres and works -- but if it be so, so be it.

I for one probably won't read whatever new EU they put out after EpVII until at least a few years afterwards (like I did with the PT), but I'm quite prepared to believe that something awesome might come out of it.

Oh, and now... two (non-mutually exclusive) ways they could be trying to tie the old EU into the new (don't know if all of this has been said already, didn't read it all before posting) --

    1. The Kemp duology is a reboot story like the reboot Star Trek movie was -- starting in the old continuity and explaining why there is "also" a new one. After all, there was already some time travel in Crosscurrent, and Kemp is definitely up to something elaborate and universe-splitting.

    2. They keep everything before Endor and chuck out everything after. Allows them to keep TCW running (and finally do the Live Action Series); might explain why Stover seems to be working on IC2; wouldn't harm SW:1313 or TOR; and hey, who cares about a few loose threads from Rogue Planet or Outbound Flight...

so after a good nights sleep... ok who am I kidding, after a night with no sleep and Gollum-esque rants "My precious.... my precious EU" I am finally awake and back here writing from my work break...
With lots of funlines and pics about the news online by now and even parts of me being optimistic about SW not dying, more sw stuff than I can ever buy or catch up with ever and to boot potentially lots more about my beloved characters if the EU does not go boom... I still hate the news.

While less apocalyptic than yesterday, today I am realizing the true big change coming... MONEY. I need already more than I have to keep up, to catch up with postponed stuff. Completist I am, Disney will milk the cashcow to extremes where no company has gone before. And that ultimately means.. I am broke, my family will starve.

Unless... and here it comes! THEY HIRE ME for the future of star wars. so..lets hope Disney has a habit of hiring fans as authors, specialists or else for whatever jobs might arise.

so, when my delusions passed and wishful drinking.. ahem thinking stops.. I am back to rant a bit more later in a creative yet curious, confused optimistic way trying to make the best out of this.. if possible.

I realised that yesterday, too. It was one of the things that's made me realise I'm just going to buy what I want to read now, and not bother trying to read it all.

The same will probably go for TOR... I still haven't started playing it, but I now might just do one Republic and one Empire character, rather than bothering with all eight. If there's no realistic chance of reading it all, then I'm now free to be more selective and can just YouTube the rest.
