So it looks like the Emperor's outer robe is made of some waffle weave I think it's called. I did find one black waffle weave knit fabric at joann's, but after looking REALLY close at a picture in the Magic of Myth book, and using the clasp as a point of reference for measurement, it looks like each little square on the weave is a quarter inch wide, making the one I found too small. Has anyone ever found a waffle weave like this and could show me where to get it? I know it's a long shot, but I can't be the only one who wants an Emperor's robe.

Do you have a reference pic? I actually have a tablecloth from Target that's a pretty big waffle weave-- but it's a very loose weave, and it's blue and white checked, not black. *g*

There's a fabric called monk's cloth that I was looking at to do a Jawa costume with. It's woven with a bit of criss-cross patching. Not sure how to describe it, but it's usually white/beige and can be dyed black if you need it.

Seems like it was about $4-$5/yd. I think this may be the stuff you're looking for. Wal-Mart has it usually, but so does Hancock. Haven't tried JoAnn's but I'm sure they have it also.

What's "definitely monk's cloth"? The original Emperor costume, or the cloth that Brood was just talking about?

Ok, I checked out monk's cloth. It's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something with raised waffle patterns. Monk's cloth has little squares, but they're not raised.
