Hello my friends, I am looking for good short stories in SW. Can you recommend me some and tell me why did you like them? I am specifically searching for stories after the Battle of Yavin until NJO Era (legends or canon). Thanks!
You ought to track these down then, all Legends: Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina Tales from Jabba's Palace Tales of the Bounty Hunters Tales from the Empire Tales from the New Republic. For comics - look at Star Wars Tales, also Legends.
Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett is hands down the best Star Wars short story. Highly recommend it.
No Disintegrations, Please from Tales from the New Republic is fantastic. One of the only pieces of fiction I have read twice.
Yep, but wanted to specially highlight it because those books do have a few, let's say, less exceptional stories.
I agree with the Tales of books. Especially the Boba Fett ones. The MTV Where-are-They-Now? riff on the Max Rebo band is also a winner. Among others that stuck with me: -The Longest Fall -Pretty much all the John Jackson Miller ones, be they related to KOTOR or Lost Tribe of the Sith (and this is coming from someone who hated the Lost Tribe "Sith" in FOTJ, but he told a pretty catchy tale in those short stories... it was a bit like the Wrath of Kahn, if Kahn never made if off his planet and was forced to survive. With flying dinosaurs.) -Tenebrous Way but you gotta read Plagueis first -Anything by Abel Peña (although like Luceno you really only enjoy it to the max if you can catch all the hidden jokes)
The only short stories I've read in that time period would be various ones from the first two volumes of Star Wars Tales so I'll just list some good ones, even if they are really short compared to the novel short stories: Mara Jade: A Night on the Town (If you're a Mara Jade fan that is) Moment of Doubt (Good Vader action story set during Episode V) Sand Blasted (Fun Dark Forces tie in with some Shadows of the Empire swoop characters) Fortune, Fate, and the Natural History of the Sarlacc Thank the Maker Outbid But Never Outgunned (It's unclear when this took place probably before Yavin but, I just had to include it)
Oh come on, I haven't read those books for about 15 years! You'll get a hit list of the good stuff from others though - Last One Standing for instance. Mentioned above by others, which I forgot about, is Lost Tribe of the Sith Omnibus - an excellent set of 6-7 linked stories or so
Agreed about the hit list on good stories. Some of the "Tales of" anthology stories tie into each other too, because the authors were in communication when they wrote them. I guess that doesn't automatically make them better, but there's something amusing when a character's offhanded action in one story affects someone else in another tale. That said, the IG-88 tale sucks. It's also a Legends classic. But it sucks.
