I know some of us love these films. I also know that some of us don't. I don't care...I'm posting it anyway. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and Return of the King are truly amazing pieces of cinema(however long they may be) and now I can't wait for the Extended Edition. Discuss.

It's about time, Mike!! I saw ROTK yesterday and I loved it. Now I loved the Battle at Helm's Deep in TTT more than the battle in ROTK, but then again, I'm really partial to TTT.

And I was happy with the amount of Legolas :)

I know R.J. is gonna kill me for saying this but...

    LoTR Trilogy = SW OT

    LOTR Trilogy > SW PT

    LOTR Trilogy > SW
    _

Not gonna lie on that one. I've seen ROTK for the 4th time today, and ROTK makes the LoTR film film trilogy as equal to all of the Star Wars films, not gonna lie. :p

Regardless, SW is still my fave, but barely. :\

LOTR is nowhere near SW in my eyes. But after watching FOTR and TTT yesterday...I noticed they don't really suck as much as I remember. They're actually kind of good. LOTR is better than The Matrix and Star Trek, I'll admit that. Must go see ROTK now....Uh oh!

I wouldn't compare them to SW, because it's a totally different piece of cinema in my eyes.

The LOTR trilogy is just sheer brilliance, and Peter Jackson did an outstanding job on all three, sticking to the books and not adding a bunch of crap.

How the heck can you even compare the two???

Sw is SW, and even though people compare the two and say they rob from each other, SW still had the better "adaptation".

LOTR is a great trilogy, like The Godfather.

If you are comparing the 2, look at originality. One has been created from someones mind, straight onto celluloid and the other is a screenplay off of a book that is a proven classic. So if the Hobbit comes out, are you gonna compare it to the PT? Unrightfully so.

I agree that there are similarities (glowing swords, and that speech that the king of Rohan gives as he is dying) but these flicks are two seperate entities.

You can't. They're both great. If you don't like both then you can go to hell.

    You heard me!!

While I will say that LotR is a great Trilogy, what was released in the theaters however was nowhere near SW.

I hated FotR when it first came out. It was not until I watched it again before I could appreciate it.

TTT I loved in the theaters.

But RotK is much like FotR for me, as I did not enjoy it the first time I saw it.

There is the difference...SW was enjoyed the very first time I watched each film. I love them all.

I just think some people have nothing better to do than sit and compare the two films.

I'll say this: Read the books and you'll find that the similiarities you speak of are crap.

They're both DIFFERENT pieces of work. Lucas had an imagination and he used it. Peter Jackson is a GENIUS and decided to make a screen adaptation of three brilliant pieces of literature.

I tend to agree with Gary here. LOTR was just movies created from an exsisting Story.
SW is/was/will FOREVER be the greatest story created and told in large part because it was the FIRST of its kind.

OK, the lucas has imagination thing is a load of crap, as high as mount doom and just as smelly.

Corelians are a real people that live in the norway sweeden area

Tatooine is a real place in Tunisia

The ATAT's are based of of loading cranes in San Fran

Darth Vader's costume is based on that of a Samuri

Basic Plot line.....as old as time itself

I know it's not a long list BUT, I lost a lot of my respect for that man when I found all this out. I REALLY LOVE THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY, really I do. These films that are coming out are killing what I remember to be a great child hood but thats another bit.

In closing, george lucas used a hodge podge of things that already exsisted to create a masterpeice of film, BUT he didn't come up with it all by his self.

Lord of the Rings kicks ass, but you have to watch the extended versions to really apprciate it.

    Don't hate me

Is it so hard to just say that some people like both SW AND LOTR? I don't think it is. Who cares which is better...as long as you enjoy them.

Not true. Plenty of crap was added and changed (and omitted).

Seriously, what's the big deal? Just because some of us are SW fans doesn't mean we can't like LOTR.

    Geez, get over it.

If it was the first time we've ever seen a post like that, then we'd think it was a joke. But that was post 12308347987435 telling us that.
