Something like this...
(Yeah, I really should get down to those drawings... )
Yay, Mar's quick conceptual sketch has made its JC appearance!
Ubersue, basically I'm linking feminist/queer performance theory with postmodern performance theory to create a postmodern staging of Hamlet. I'm working with the traditional text, except I've made certain changes to it. Aside from cutting out certain characters and plots (for example, the whole Fortinbras arc is gone), I've gone through and changed some of the pronouns due to gender-switches... naturally, this changes the meaning of certain passages in the text, sometimes to amusing ends. I started with the idea of what would happen if Hamlet were female (not cross-dressed, since we've had cross-dressed Hamlets before, but actually female) and how that gender change would skew the relationships of the characters. As such, I've changed some other character genders as well, and the whole thing has turned into this very twisted, confused sexual identity crisis that crashes against the norms and ideals of capitalism and Western society, with a healthy dose of self-reflexivity, because Shakespeare performances always end up being metatheatrical in some way.
Mar is doing some costume sketches for me. Additionally, she is providing lots and lots of cheering. She's like a solo cheerleader squad for crazed theatre students who have big, beautiful, monster production ideas.
That's awesome!! Love the drawing as well
Ubersue, you should post it here when you're done!
That's very cool, Idrelle. And Mar, love the drawing.
That's the plan. I'm trying to get good at this whole finishing stories thing.
My biggest challenge right now is establishing the character of Jack Crusher. But I'll move that complaint to the Star Trek thread.
Emo-punk Hamlette FTW!
Good luck!! I look forward to seeing it
Someone just reminded me that Christmas is next week. Dear god.
Ugh... I thought I was so great for getting Christmas presents early; chocolates for everyone! Then I ate them.
This is what happens when I try to get organized.
I know Christmas is a week away...
I just realized it when I looked at my bank account.
But I know the faces of my brothers when they open their present will make it all worth it.
Did they taste good?
I have to pick up a gift card tomorrow, and then I'm done. I can't believe Christmas is next week, though.
Ugg. Pay Day isn't until Christmas Eve.
Yes, Ms. Goddess, they were indeed delicious.
Except the milk chocolates looked like they had been melted and solidified a couple of times. They were on sale, after all.
Note to self: If you love someone, don't buy them foodstuffs at discounted prices.
Miana, that sucks
I can't believe Christmas is almost here. It and Thanksgiving totally snuck up on me this year.
And then we'll hit 2011.
And the end of the year can't come soon enough for me.
2010 has been a royal mess for me.
2010 has definitely been the craziest year of my life But in a good way.
Eep, I hope you managed Christmas okay, Miana.
Anybody got any big resolutions for the new year?
I think I'm going to make some (for the first time) - things like getting amazing grades and finding a job.
Thanks [} Do you have any?
You mean New Year's resolutions? Sure.
1. Win a lottery so that I can buy the flat I live in (belongs to my aunt).
2. Find a man.
I have a couple for once.
1. To cook more. I enjoy doing it why not do it more often.
2. Travel and go through with it.
3. Be more organized.
4. Just be happy being single.
Those are all great resolutions
(by te way, if you all have fanfic resolutions, share 'em here
I don't make New Years resolutions. For one thing, I tend to forget about them.
I'm terrible at that too
