Everyone loses a lightsabre in Star Wars. And Lucas has said it himself.

    Phantom Menace
-There was a cut scene where Qui-Gon was
talking to Obi-Wan about his lightsbre.
-Obi-Wan dropped his down that long hole
    in the ground.
-Qui-Gon lost his when he died.
-Darth Maul lost 1/2 of his when it was
    cut in two.

    Attack of the Clones
-Anakin dropped his in the speeder chase
-Obi-Wan dropped his in the rain battle
-Anakin and Obi-Wan got their lightsabres
    taken away before the battle.
-Obi-Wan dropped his after Dooku injured
    him.
-Anakin dropped his after Dooku cut his
    hand off.

    Episode III
    -...

    A New Hope
-Obi-Wan dropped his after he disapeared.

    The Empire Strikes Back
-Luke's slipped out of a pocket while he
was knocked out from the wampa.
-Luke lost his when Darht Vader cut his
    arm off.

    Return Of The Jedi
-Luke got his sabre taken away when he
    was caught.
-Vader lost his when Luke cut his arm off.
-Luke threw his away after the huge
    battle with Vader.

    Here is the count:
    Obi-Wan: Lost 5 sabres
    Anakin/Vader: Lost 3 Sabres
    Luke: Lost 4 sabres
    Qui-Gon: Lost 1 sabre
    Darth Maul: Lost 1/2 sabre.

For jedi, these guys weren't good at keeping up with things.

What I want to know is...what does it all mean?

Dooku will lose his, when he looses his life. Just you wait. That will mean that "Yoda is the man"

We don't see Yoda's lightsabre in OT so will he lose his too or will he just put it away?

    Dangerously Disturbing this puzzle is...

Sybolic castration? You don't see females losing their lightsabers.

Darth_Malt: I saw someone mention that thing about symbolic castration, so I just assumed that losing one´s lightsaber means losing one´s manhood ;)

Luke didn't throw his away, he only threw it on the ground after the fight with Vader.

    He still had it. ;)

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

I agree, too many sabers are lost in the films. It will be interesting to see if any are in ep3 - we do not yet know when Obi gets his ANH saber, as well as Ani's/Luke's ANH saber.

I know Luke didn't throw it away, but I was just saying he didn't want to use it.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU ALL MADE ME FORGET ONE OF THE BEST LIGHTSABRE LOSSES. ANAKIN'S LIGHTSABRE SPLIT IN THE DROID FACTORY SO HERE IS THE NEW COUNT.

    UPDATED COUNT
    Here is the count:
    Obi-Wan: Lost 5 sabres
    Anakin/Vader: Lost 4 Sabres
    Luke: Lost 4 sabres
    Qui-Gon: Lost 1 sabre
    Darth Maul: Lost 1/2 sabre.

Anakin lost 4 and Luke lost 4. Like father, like son.

I find it slightly humorous and ironic that Obi-Wan (so far) has lost his lightsaber the most. He always seemed the rational and mature one. ;) 8-} :D

It seems to be a running joke as well as an easy way to heighten tension and raise the stakes for a hero.

I wouldn't look too deeply into it.

I find it more interesting that Obi-Wan and Anakin keep more or less he same design throughout the Saga. Obi-Wan's TPM, AotC and ANH blades are all nearly identical. Anakins blue hilt is exactly the same as his Vader saber (just red with a few black bits stuck on) ;)

I was just thinking: doesn't Obi-Wan loose his lightsaber yet again in TPM when Maul kicks him off the ledge, he falls and then uses both hands to hold on...so technically he'd have to have dropped his lightsaber along the way...

Sorry - I'm a little fuzzy on the exact event, I haven't watched TPM in forever. :(

I wouldn't consider people when they die to lose their sabers because they are dead.

Also just because someone drops his saber, doesn't mean he loses it. If he picks it up again, he hasn't lost it. So Obi-Wan has lost 3 lightsabers, 1 in TPM and 2 in AOTC. Maybe you should retitle the thread to "dropped lightsabers"

"find it more interesting that Obi-Wan and Anakin keep more or less he same design throughout the Saga."

I would have to disagree with Obi having a "nearly identical" saber in ep1/2 and ep4. They have a similar color scheme on the hilt but there are drastic differences. Ex: the "bell" shaped emitter, the red push button instead of the activation box..

    ANH saber:
    [image=http://www.geocities.com/c-boath/images/obi-anh.jpg]

    Prequal saber:
    [image=http://www.geocities.com/c-boath/images/obi-render.jpg]

"doesn't Obi-Wan loose his lightsaber yet again in TPM when Maul kicks him off the ledge, he falls and then uses both hands to hold on...so technically he'd have to have dropped his lightsaber along the way..."

His saber is still on the floor when Maul pushes him, but then Maul kicks his saber down the shaft.
There are 2 theorys as to Obi's ep2 saber (since it is identical to his ep1 saber) : either he recovered it somehow from the pit or he constructed an identical one again. The latter is obvioulsy more plausible.

No no atomik, I'm not talking about after Qui-Gon dies - but rather shortly before Qui-Gon gives Darth Maul a jab with his elbow to send him falling down levels, Maul kicks Obi-Wan; sending him hitting the ledge hard and rolling off. Then the lightsaber falls right in front of him before he regains his footing, grabs the lightsaber, and jumps up to try an run to Qui-Gon's rescue.

Rewatching it now it's very clear that he loses/drops his saber. :)

I think that the idea of losing/dropping lightsabres goes to show that the Jedi are not invincible. After all, the lightsabre is their weapon, which they are able to control almost to the point of perfection.

Without their lightsabre, it becomes more interesting to see how they react in possibly unfamiliar conditions with a different weapon.

And of course, it goes to show that the Jedi are not as perfect as they should be.

After seeing Obi-Wan go kung-fu on Jango, I wonder why more Jedi don't always depend on their sabres.
