I hope Caedus succeeds then gets his @$$ handed to him by Kyle Katarn. That's one of my miffs about LOTF. Jacen taking down Kyle [face_talk_hand] never happened.

Kyle Katarn is an overhyped videogame character Darth Caedus is the grandson of the Chosen One and the most powerful/skilled forceuser of his generation whose one weakness was that in LOTF he went bat**** crazy. The only people who are more powerful than him are Kyp (maybe) and Luke, Leia has more potential but a lot less training and Jaina was his equal in potential his inferior in training and his superior in sanity (but so was almost everyone else).

GrandMasterKatarn: That's one of my miffs about LOTF. Jacen taking down Kyle ... never happened.

Yeah, that did suck, but at least he survived. I think when I read that, I nearly assumed he was dead and just about yelled "WHAT?!"

Katarn? Overhyped?. I actually never thought Kyp was close to Luke in terms of power. My theory is, in The Jedi Acad Tril, is that Kyp was able to put Luke in that coma/whatever, because Luke had no idea what that was. I always thought if he had any idea what it was, then he could've fought it back without moving a finger. Taken him by surprised.

Anywho, that's my two-bobs-worth. Just thought I'd throw it out there...

Nice chapter, I like the way that you wrote the battle meditation, Caedus is quite good at that. This was an excellent chapter, keep up the great work. Oh, on a side note, I always thought that Kyle Katarn was pretty powerful, but after Fury, I realized the truth, he was good against Dark Jedi, but when it came time to face a true Sith, he got beat in less that a minute, I guess his reputation was nothing but bluster.

Well, the Jedi know what he's up to now, and while Ship gives him an advantage, even he recognized that it might not be enough with the number of Jedi there.

Well, he's doing decently well in this battle so far. More on the Great Kyle Debate at the end.

Yeah, he is, and Ship really helps with it.

    The Great Kyle Debate
I think Kyle is toward the top end of the power spectrum of Jedi Masters (below Luke and Kyp at least). I don't think he's as powerful as he was shown in the video games, but he's still powerful and skilled enough to be the NJO's Battlemaster. That being said, he doesn't play much of a role in this story. Part of that is that I'm not as familiar with him as most of the other characters, and the rest is the fact that this story is more about firmly establishing the next generation of Jedi.

This has not been abandoned. There are just 3 problems slowing me down:

    1) Most of the ideas I've had the past few weeks have been for the big Tahiri scene in Chapter 46. Oops, forget I said that last part :p

    2) I've had a plot bunny for a Star Wars/Stargate: Atlantis crossover that bit me pretty hard and I've been plotting that out.

    3) Galactic Civilization II is an incredibly addictive game.

I finally managed to finish Chapter 44. I sent it to my beta reader and will post it as soon as I get it back from her.

I'm giving up on weekly updates (especially once I start posting my SGA/SW crossover), so I'll just post chapters as I finish them and get them beta read (no more than 1 a week).

My Beta Reader hasn't logged in in a week, so I'm going to go ahead and post the chapter in its current form.

    Chapter 44
    Kashyyyk System
"Twin Suns Squadron is out of the atmosphere," Jaina reported.

?Twin Suns Lead, the Wookiees have requested that you escort two of their bomber squadrons on an attack run. Sending you the data now," Tycho Celchu replied, acting as a liaison between the Jedi squadrons and the Wookiee fleet.

"Understood, control," Jaina replied. "Twin Suns, on me. We're covering Sirra's squadrons on a run against the target marked Delta-12. First pass, blow through their fighter screen, then keep them off the Owools."

She reached out into the battle meld. It was there, but something didn't feel right, almost as if it was a comm line laced with static.

"Lead, there are three squadrons screening Delta-12," Zekk reported. "Two squadrons of X-wings, one squadron of Alephs."

"The Alephs are the bigger threat," Jaina decided. "Pass through them on our first run and use torpedoes to wear them down, but save some for targets of opportunity."

A series of clicks followed Jaina's order as the pilots acknowledged and followed her toward the fighter screen. A second later, Syal noticed something. "Those Alephs are Dancer Squadron."

"I haven't heard of them before," Doran commented.

"They're the squadron I was in before I left," Syal explained.

"Do you want to hang back and cover the Owools?" Jaina asked. Her first battle with us and we run up against her old squadron. What are the odds of that?

"No, I can handle it," Syal replied. Jaina could hear a slight tremble in her voice but let it pass.

"Jag, Zekk, let's concentrate fire on Dancer 3," Jaina ordered as they approached weapons range.

"Understood," Jag answered. As soon as they got close enough, Jaina launched a torpedo at the bulky assault fighter. Both it and a torpedo from Zekk hit, but it was able to evade Jag's concussion missile, which was a second behind.

The trio of fighters sprayed lasers at the Aleph, but it managed to avoid the worst of it by jinking with its maneuvering jets. At the last second before they passed each other, Jaina managed to put a shot right into the cockpit. As she pulled up into a half loop, she glanced at the sensor board. We only got two of them? Suddenly one of the Twin Suns contacts winked out, but Jaina didn't feel any of her pilots die.

"Control, Twin Suns 5 just went EVA," she reported.

"I'll dispatch a rescue shuttle as soon as I can," Tycho answered.

Jaina turned her focus back to the battle and saw that the Alliance X-wings had managed to cut past them and make a run against the Owools while Twin Suns had been distracted by the Alephs. They must have transferred all energy to their engines to pull that off. "Twin Suns, cover the Owools. Take any shots you can at the Alephs, but getting the Wookiees to their target is our top priority."

Without waiting for a response, Jaina accelerated and started firing at one of the Alliance X-wings. It reacted faster than she had anticipated and broke off from its run on the Wookiee fighter to evade the shots.

As Jaina lined up on another of the Alliance X-wings, she saw Syal's A-wing slash past it and rake it with laser fire, followed by Valin and Doran's X-wings finishing the job.

"I could use some help here," came a transmission from Sirra, one of the Wookiee squadron commanders, automatically translated by her comm system. Jaina saw that four X-wings were pursuing her.

"On our way, Sirra," Jaina called. "Jag, take lead."

Jag responded with a click on his mic and turned toward the targets. His superior speed let him open up a bit of distance from Jaina and Zekk, allowing him to disable one of the X-wings with his ion cannons before they were in weapons range. Jaina took out the second X-wing, while Zekk managed to damage one of the remaining pair.

    Jaina's mother's

    Sorry I haven't replied for a while!! [face_blush]
    But I've been lurking!!
I just wanted to say I do agree with Leia here:

One day, its gunna bite him in the butt.
& that day might be today, in this battle!

Also, Jacen is kinda right about the leaders of the New Republic...
But that doesn't mean what he is doing is right!!

    Great chapter- as usual!! =D=
    I can't wait for more!!

    Hey Ultima_1
This is really awesome. I love it.

    The trailer was great.

At times I must agree. Particularly with Jacen.

Yeah. Don't think Zekk would like that too much.:p

Jaggie [face_shame_on_you] you know better than to watch her when she's busy. :p Corellians.
Knowing Jay anything could happen. [face_worried]

    Only close? o_O
    :p Corellians.

Sounds almost like his "Don't forget who you are" comment from Fury.=D=

Anyways. these were the things that stuck out the most to me in the first page or so. I'll give more feed back after I reread the other pages. :p

    Keep it UPPPPP!

Good chapter. I love the fact that he is so surprised by the Jedi's power in resisting him. He indeed is overconfident. Nice battle scene.

Well, I hadn't updated in over a month, so that's understandable. I already have the next chapter half done, so the next update shouldn't take nearly as long.

The best villains are the ones who are absolutely convinced they're right.

Well, yeah, it did bite him in the butt a little bit now, but his backup plan could still cause some problems.

I wouldn't go that far. He was trying to match his power against his mother, the Grandmaster and the Sword of the Jedi. That's not exactly an easy task, and before that, the battle was going pretty well in his favor.

Welcome. Glad you like it so far. That Jaina/Jag scene was actually the first thing I wrote for this story. I figured there wouldn't be any point if I couldn't capture the voices of the characters. Oh, and I don't blame Jag for staring, considering Jaina's attire.

Welcome back. I'll add you to the list.

Well, they weren't resisting him directly as much as distracting him enough to gain the advantage. They probably could have overpowered his battle meditation, but this was faster and gave them some helpful information.

    Chapter 45
    Jacen Solo's Apartment, Coruscant
Though HK-47 was on standby, a fraction of one of his processors monitored the audio security pickups outside his master's quarters. Analysis determined that neither of the voices matched any of the voiceprints he had identified during Lord Caedus' absence. He brought the rest of the processor online to analyze them further.

"Are you sure this is the right floor?" a female voice asked.

"We're almost there," a young male voice replied.

The female voice did not match any of the voiceprints Lord Caedus had on file, but the he calculated a 92.375 percent probability that the male was Ben Skywalker. He attempted to access the visual feed from the building's security system but got nothing but static.

The probability of the security system being down at the same time as Ben Skywalker is nearby is well below one percent. He or his accomplice most likely disabled the building's security system but were unaware of my master's precautions.

    "Here we are," Skywalker said.

"All right, just give me a second," his accomplice replied.

HK-47 became fully active as the soft sound of a lock descrambler came through the audio pickups. He withdrew his blasters from their charging ports and flipped them to stun. Lord Caedus wants Skywalker alive, however his accomplice is expendable. Once I disable Skywalker, I am free to terminate the female meatbag.

Abruptly, the lock descrambler fell silent. HK-47 reviewed the audio but did not hear a tone indicating that the door was unlocked.

    "What's wrong?" the female asked.

"Something doesn't feel right," Skywalker told her. "I'm aborting the mission."

"With Jacen offworld, this could be our only chance," the woman reminded him.

"We won't have another chance if we get captured or killed either," Skywalker answered.

    "Good point," the woman allowed.

If they are not coming in, I will need to pursue them. Lord Caedus will be most pleased if I can apprehend Skywalker. As their footsteps faded from the audio pickups, HK-47 opened the door and walked out into the hallway.

    Rwookrrorro, Kashyyyk
"After leaving Kashyyyk, the Alliance fleet attacked Arabanth. They destroyed all the military ships and stations in the system, then left," Tenel Ka's hologram informed the gathered Jedi and their allies.

"Smart move," Han said. After a few people in the room gave him a strange look, he clarified. "Jacen knows that we know about his battle meditation and that the Jedi can counteract it. He's forcing you to spread out to protect our allies so that we can't mass enough of you in one place to go on the offensive."

"That's probably part of it," Luke answered. "But we know that someone out there has been killing Jedi who are out on assignment. We know it isn't Jacen, but if it is someone acting on his orders, spreading out would give that person more targets."

"What if I do not request your assistance?" Tenel Ka asked.

"Well, kid, in that case, Jacen will probably let the press know that we were able to fight him off but your planet couldn't. Either your nobles would demand that you get us to help or they'd revolt and Jacen would help them take over," Han replied.

"That is what I would do in his place," Jag agreed.

"I will send Kyp's squadron to Hapes as soon as their ships are repaired and resupplied," Luke said. "You may not ask for our help, but with one of your fleets here, we are obligated to assist you. Gilad, I can have my squadron ready to go to Bastion within a day."

"Thank you, Luke," the aged Grand Admiral replied. "Admiral Ardiff's task force has already departed for Kashyyyk, and barring any unforeseen difficulties, will be arriving in two days."

    "Your squadron, Luke?" Leia asked.

"We were the least involved in the battle here, so we will be ready to leave sooner than any of the others," Luke explained. "And I believe that Jacen will want to send the same message to

First, I'd like to thank whoever nominated me in the Beyond the Saga Fanfic Awards/

Well, right now, he's just stalking them and gathering intel. Who knows what he'll be able to do once he lets Caedus know who was knocking on his door? :p

Right now, Jacen's focus is more on the big picture than taking Jedi out himself. Though if Jaina gets her way, he'll get a chance to fight some Jedi directly soon.

As for updating, I won't have an update next week because I'll be taking my Boy Scout troop to Summer Camp. I'll have a notebook and my voice recorder along, so with luck, I'll have the chapter all ready to type up when I get back.

Well, some already have, both in the battle of Kashyyyk and earlier in the story. Welcome.

First: I'm worried about Ben. This doesn't look good. [face_worried]

Second:"That is what I would do in his place," Jag agreed.

Of course. Add in the fact that you aren't evil and I'll agree with you. :p

Third:"No one else can do this," Jaina interrupted. "This is what Master Skywalker meant when he named me the Sword of the Jedi."

    True. But are you ready?

And Finally:"Jaina, you have made some good points, but going in without a plan would make any attack far too likely to blow up in your face," Luke said. "I'm not saying 'no', but you need to wait for the right time."

Good way to cover your butt, Luke. Cuz she would have kicked it all the way to Coruscant and back! [face_laugh][face_laugh][face_laugh][face_laugh]

[face_thinking]Either that, or she would have just gone without permission. Period.

Well, HK-47 isn't all that subtle, so I think Ben and Myri will have some advanced warning.
Jag is career military and in a leadership position now, so his opinion would carry some weight.
Yeah, Jaina is likely to go regardless, but Luke does have a point.

The Jacen/Caedus tangent was pretty realistic to me. Meetings usually don't go without interruptions of some sort or another.

Endgame was nominated for Best Drama. Thanks to everyone who nominated me. Does anyone have any suggestions for what scene to use for the excerpt? I'll be taking opinions on that until the 10th.

I got the next chapter mostly written at camp, so I just need to type it up. Hopefully I'll have it to my beta reader by Tuesday.
