    I used to have a ball painting warhammer figures for use with our MERP campaigns. Sometimes I'd spend ages on one figure to get it just right. Not because it needed that uch time but because I just had fun doing it and I think that makes a difference to the finished result.

    Well, I said I'd post pics, and here they are:

    This is just a quick snap mid game of some of the scenery I've made, the scenery isn't quite finished (and given my plans, probably never will be quite finished)
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/battle.jpg]

    These are the Orcs that came with the first pack:
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/orcs.jpg]

    These are the Uruk Hai that came out on Thursday:
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/uruk.jpg]

    Close up of an Uruk Hai, after I uploaded this pic I realised that his arm wasn't glued all the way in properly, oh well...
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/urukclose.jpg]

    This is Frodo that came with pack 3, I haven't had time yet to properly detail his face.
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/frodo.jpg]

    Same figure, bit with a ruler for scale so you can see how small these things really are:
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/frodoscale.jpg]

    My Elves, which Clare painted, which is why they look the best out of all of my miniatures...

    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/elves.jpg]

    And finally, my Gondorians, not really happy with how the shields came out, I'm going to redo them when I get the chance
    [image=http://members.dodo.com.au/~narsil/gondorians.jpg]

    Ok, so they don't look as good as the ones in the magazines, but I'll get there ;)

    Isn't the scenery supposed to be ruins? If it is, then why does it need to be finished? It has to look like it's falling apart... :p

    Seriously though... Love the photos

    Well, yeeahhh... :p

    But I want to build Osgiliath, (the city between Minas Tirith and Mordor with a river down the middle that Faramir loses to the Orc army) So it's gonna be a big model when it's finished, so it definitely won't be completed before we move.

    And thanks :)

    Nice. They're a different scale to the ones I used to paint. The orcs in those sets were probably about 5cm tall so it was a lot easier to paint them. Much harder to get smaller figures looking that good in detail.

    They look real good dude, and my compliments to Clare for her work on the elves, they look killer.

    I've yet to paint any of mine yet but considering it, I've got 6 weeks off work starting at the end of May so I may even put it off til then.

    just wondering if you did all that with just the paints that they provided ?

    Thanks guys, and yeah I just used the paints provided with the mag, although I did go buy more paints from GW, it was just to replace the colours I had used up (More green for example, I used it for scenery and for all the bases). And I followed the magazine's instructions and painting guide to a point.
    Clare kinda followed the guide, but seeing as she helped costume the Elves Orcs and Uruks in the film, I'm inclined to go with her thoughts on the colour guides for them.
    The Orcs for example used leather shields, but the paint guide says to base coat them black, and then dry brush silver and give silver edging to give the impression of worn metal, what I did instead was give them their black base coat, a dry brush of sliver (as per the paint guide) and then I gave them a brown wash over the whole shield, which gave the silver highlights a worn leathery look.
    Also, for both the Uruks and Orcs, I gave them a black wash all over after painting, to smooth the tones, fill in little details (shadow on armour, eyes and ears on Orcs) and dull down that bright green paint they give you. You can do this with about a 25% black paint to 75% tap water mix, it'll look crap when you first paint it on, but after it dries it's well worth it :)

    Recieved parts 4 and 5 this week, along with the third free gift, the Bain's tomb setting.

    One minor problem, I have no idea how this should be painted, anyone know of a painting guide for this piece ?

    I've promised myself that I will at least start to paint my figures from part one today, could be messy !

    Looks like it might be something they leave up to your imagination to complete.
    Leave it till after you've painted the miniatures, after following the paint guides you'll have learnt a fair bit about dry brushing techniques, blending paints and that sort of thing.

    None of the packs out so far have any "spells" in them.
    Are you in Australia? I know some countries are much further ahead in these than we are, and you may be referring to a pack that has characters such as Gandalf or Sauraman that we haven't gotten yet.

    I could possibly scan some of the details and email them to you.
    This thusday pack No. 6 comes out, so it'll be about 3 months before we get the pack you're talking about.
    How have the rest of them been for you guys so far? Do the terrain building workshops get more detailed?

    Castles? I'm gonna have to hold off on terrain building till I move ;)

    Have you looked at the gamesworkshop website? they have some of the rule charts and such on there, things like character stats and wound charts...

    i checked the games workshop website but to no avail. there was nothing about spells or enchantments. however if u find the rules elsewhere can u please post them to me?

    I didn't see any rules about spells there myself, just some handy charts for character stats and easy to reference wound charts and the like.
    If you only want the spells you're either going to have to buy the rule book from GW or wait 3 months for one of us to get the issues :)
