Okay, so they still won't be adding Tom Bombadil to the Fellowship of the Rings movie. However, many other favorite scenes that didn't make the movie's final cut may yet make it into the Tolkien epic. Last month, director Peter Jackson dropped comments that while no director's cut was forthcoming, the DVD release of the first Lord of the Rings film would include about forty extra minutes' worth of cut scenes as bonus features.

Today, the news gets even better. According to TheOneRing.net, producer Barrie Osborne told 1010 Winds radio of New York City that there would be an extended director's cut edition available after all. And according to Dark Horizons, CNN's Showbiz Today segment confirmed the news, saying that the Fellowship DVD director's cut would be over four hours in length.

There's no official word on what all will be included in this extra-length version, but here are a few scenes that were filmed and might make their way into the film:

More footage of the hobbits' escape from the Shire

An attack by Orcs and Goblins as the Fellowship enter Lothlorien, with Haldir and the Elves coming to the rescue

More character interaction and development among the Fellowship

Gimli falling for the beauty of Galadriel

Aragorn speaking Elvish with Galadriel (according to a comment made by Cate Blanchet and reported at TheOneRing.net)

So when will this DVD be released? There's no firm release date as yet, though producer Osborne promises it will be out before the release of The Two Towers in December. Rumors have surfaced about an early April release, but the safe money says to expect the DVD sometime in late summer. There's no word on whether a VHS version will also be made.

this time I'm really going to invade a friend of mine's house! [face_devil]

At least the Gimli/Galadriel interaction is there, that alone makes it worth it!

Ok, going to have to start shopping for a DVD drive.

Are there any drives that can be hooked up to a computer as well as a TV?

No, but you could get a TV out or TV in card so you could either watch your computer on TV or your TV on computer.

Once again Jackson is showing Lucas how it's suppose to be done

My thoughts exactly. :) I'd love for the OT dvd's to contain both the original movies, and the super special editions or whatever. It would be the best of both worlds! :)

'Once again Jackson is showing Lucas how it's suppose to be done'

    Hardly [face_plain]

It doesn't sound anywhere near as impressive as the TPM DVD. We shall see.

The TPM DVD left out quite a few Darth Maul scenes that I would have liked to see. *pout* :(

Hopefully, the LOTR DVD release will have all the deleted material included.

"Once again Jackson is showing Lucas how it's suppose to be done"

If I have to hear this wish-fulfillment one more time, I'll puke.
Just like assuming TT will be a better movie than EpII.
Some of us can actually enjoy both.

    Oh boy,
1.5 hours more of swooping Isengard shots, extreme facial closeups and views of the fellowship treking through nature!

If ever a movie needed to be edited down, not up, it's this one.

4.5 hours of FOTR. YES! The legends are indeed true! :D

Above all, I'm thrilled about Gimli's first glimpse of Galadriel having been filmed.

As has already been wisely said:

    Bring. It. On.

ps-- Yes, Jackson IS showing Lucas how it should be done. How many times have we discussed the OT DVDs here? How many of us have hoped for Lucas to include both the original and SE releases?

    EDIT: I can't type worth a damn.

    EDIT 2: I STILL can't type worth a damn.

For ObiWanJane. If you didn't like the movie, why would you say "another hour of my life I'll never get back." DO you play to see a longer version of the movie you felt was incurably boring?! Or are you taking a Mr.Cranky approach, slyly insinuating that you enjoyed it by making such a statement?

I highly doubt the next hour would be filled with shots of Isengard, but with actual scenes between characters and developing action. Of course, the detractors point to "irritating shots"(i wont disagree) but those shots amount to a few minutes of film time total(and that's at best)

I want to see Gimli fall for Galadriel too, they even set it up in the movie, then didn't follow through !
IMO too much time was spent on the repeat shots that could've gone to more character development (Legolas/Gimli friendship as well).
