    Title: O Flower of Endor

    Disclaimer: Not mine (alas!)

Note: This wee snippet has been hanging in my folders for a while yet (two years, to be precise). It is shamelessly adapted from The Corries' song, Flower of Scotland, and is what happens when I think of LOTR way too much... And yes, I know I am conflating Melkor/Morgoth and Sauron. But what's a poet to do if not use artistic licence here and there?

    O flower of Endor
    Will we now see
    Your like again
    That fought and died for
    River, tree, hill and glen

    And stood against him
    Dark Sauron?s army
    And sent him chasmward
    In Valar?s chain.

    The earth is bare now
    And autumn leaves lie
    Thick and still
In land that is Dark now
    Which those so dearly held

    And stood against him
    Dark Sauron?s army
    And sent him chasmward
    In Valar?s chain.

    Those days are gone now
    And in the past
    They must remain
But we can still rise now
    And be the Alliance again

    That stood against him
    Dark Sauron?s army
    And send him chasmward
    In Valar?s chain.

    Oh, how wonderful this was!

I have a high respect for anyone who can spin verse, being so dreadful at it myself, and this one even more so. I loved the epic feel to this - it reads like something written long ago, and the resounding war cry of it has both determination and hope to spare. I really enjoyed reading it. :D

    And stood against him
    Dark Sauron?s army
    And sent him chasmward
    In Valar?s chain

I loved the strength and repetitiveness of this verse. I had to say that that was my favorite part - it made the song read like a blow, powerfully set.

Thank-you very much for sharing - there is never a need for gems like these to sit for years. ;)
