Each piece will be inspired/titled after a song on my OTP playlist - which heavily features songs from the 1980s because that is the quintessential decade.

"An Eternal Flame"

Mara gets back early from a run with Karrde on an information gathering/arm twisting jaunt. She slips in and sees Luke fast asleep with the near-dawn light spilling into the room. He looks so peaceful, Mara reflects with relief as she changes into Luke's favorite sleepwear of hers - something clingy and lacey and black.

She had wanted to arrive earlier than she had told him she would to surprise him. He was a morning person, after all.

So many nights, Mara thinks, returning to her original observation, Luke had troubling dreams about things that happened - things that he felt he should have prevented but no one could have short of a time-travel device.

She recalls the first happy night coming back from Nirauan when their heartbeats still had been in a sweet tandem. She had felt closely entangled with him and yet not claustrophobic - as she might have with anyone else. The entwinement was soft and gentle, warmly overlapping without being intrusive.

As he whispered her name between caresses the night after they had officially announced their engagement, she had thought there was no sweeter sound in the galaxy.

Krell, Jade, you're getting soft?! She thinks now with a wry inner chuckle.

Luke senses her even in the periphery of dreams and his blue eyes open with a wide grin. "Mara!" He exclaims and pounces lovingly.

Yes, this was one of her better ideas.

This is so sweet!! I think it tells of the beauty of their relationship that anyone else who held her that tight would make her feel restricted, but not Luke

So sweet! The idea of her coming home at an hour that would suit him, not her; the idea that being held by him was an embrace that overlapped and entwined, not constricted - these show how she expands her world to not only include Luke but to welcome him. Love is compromise, and for someone like Mara who could easily confuse compromise with condescension, that's a big step.

That's exactly what I was going for and love about Luke/Mara -- the fact that their relationship opens up new ways of being with another person and relating to themselves also - and the whole Force bond thingy is totally above awesome.

 

This fan fic left a warm and fluffy feeling inside me, that is stronger than the ache that the canon has no place for Mara. But fan fic writers like you ease that pain with sweetness.

Luke watches Mara pivot and move gracefully with parries and ripostes. He loves watching her spar with another opponent.
When he spars with her, he watches her with keen alertness and anticipation of her next move. When she spars with another instructor or student, he can observe her leisurely, admiring the way her natural litheness and skill complement and contrast that of the "adversary."

Her hair is up to keep the loose and vibrant waves from hampering her movements.
He grins inwardly. When she takes a saniisteam later after the spar session, it will be loose and more curly than when dry. He plans on surprising her when she emerges - in nothing but a towel ...

Mara is totally focused on her sparring session. But she feels Luke on the periphery of her awareness. His admiration for her skills is accentuated by his delight in her - on a more personal level.

She is gratified by both facts. This almost tangible sense of the other has taken quite getting used to, but it feels very right and natural.

Luke catches her eye as she emerges from the 'fresher and remarks softly: "You're a natural when it comes to lightsaber form and technique as well as hand to hand."

She laughs and comments: "You just like to see me work up a sweat."

"Speak for yourself, Jade."

"I am." She answers forthrightly and strolls over to kiss him, and the towel slips off her shoulders, accidentally on purpose ...
