Fri Mar 29, 2:47 PM ET

NEW YORK (AP) - The producer of an animated pornographic movie has filed a $140 million lawsuit accusing "Star Wars" creator George Lucas of libel.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, alleges that a spokeswoman for Lucas accused the producer of "Starballz" of creating pornographic cartoons aimed at children.

"Starballz" is an explicit sex parody of outer space adventure movies.

Media Market Group, the movie's producer, says the film is intended for adults only and will not be distributed to children.

The MMG lawsuit follows unsuccessful legal action by Lucas in California in January. A federal judge in Oakland threw out a lawsuit in which Lucas alleged that "Starballz" used intellectual property from "Star Wars" without authorization and in an offensive manner.

The hero of "Starballz" travels the galaxy looking for sex. The movie has characters with risque names that might remind "Star Wars" series fans of characters from the Lucas films.

A statement by Lucas spokeswoman Lynne Hale at the time said in part: "We feel strongly that the law does not allow for parody to be a defense to a pornographic use of someone else's intellectual property, especially when that use is directed to children."

In court papers filed this week, MMG says the company "has never directed pornography to children; the cover of 'Starballz' states 'Adult Only' in three places."

Hey buddy, I bet George's lawyers can beat your lawyers. [face_plain]

I'm pretty sure they can, especially since that sounds like an infringement on George's copyright.

Lucas is being countersued by those guys? He took a swing at them already ("...both films star Mark Hamill.").

libel- any written, printed, or pictorial statement that damages a person by defaming his character and exposing him to ridicule.

Boo-frickin-hoo. In that case, Osama bin Laden can sue me and a whole bunch of cartoonists/Flash movie makers/etc.

I don't know. LFL's lawyers couldn't stop the release of the film. They may actually have a case.

Apparently you didn't read the section where Georges lawsuit was thrown out then did you ?

Long and short of it: He lost, and if the courts do find that falsely accusing a pornographic flick of being directed to children is libel, then he'll loose again. George is just using the stupid assumption that all animated films are directed at children.

And if it was a spoken statement, I don't see how its lible and not slander...

Other long and short of it, star ballz is apparently one of the worst porns imaginable.

The hero of "Starballz" travels the galaxy looking for sex.

"Dude, Where's My Car?" had a better plot than that [face_plain]

Lucas ought to have them whacked.
It would cost a lot less than $140 mil for a good hit-man.

I have actually met George Lucas and he is a great guy, but I don't see all the need for the fuss over this case.

I think what Hale meant was that the intellectual property was directed to children, not the use of the intellectual property. Still, they might have a case.

Hah! I hope they win. The right to parody is a sacred one, and George deserves to get his ass kicked for filing the original lawsuit to begin with. Realistically, there's no way in hell they'll win their countersuit, but it sure will drum up some attention for Starballz. Since it's a porno, there's no such thing as bad press, either. Hee hee!
