Arndt was interviewed at the premiere of TS3 3D here in Tokyo. He said he loved IV and V despite their flaws. In the Hoth sequence in TESB the AT-ATs somehow get past the force field, while Rebel ships flee despite said field. I wonder if Han going sub hyperspace in TFA solved that problem and was MA's idea that survived.

Furthermore, he mentioned how in TESB Luke in Dagobah seems to spend a good bit if time, longer than time on the Millennium Falcon and on Cloud City. And as I believe someone here posted, how long did it take the MF to get flit Cloud City w/o hyperdrive? Again, I wonder if sub hyperspace solves these problems and were MA's contributions.

It likely took them a couple of months to get to Bespin.

Regarding Hoth, the entire planet was probably not protected by the Rebels' shield. The Empire simply landed outside of the protected area and then walked through the shield, which, as we see in TPM, is entirely possible.
When the Rebels escaped, they temporarily deactivated the shield and used the ion cannon to prevent nearby star destroyers from seizing the moment.

My thoughts exactly on Hoth. And the time between Acts I and III sounds plausible.

I always wondered about the shield with the walkers, but they did say they had to lower the shields for the transports to leave and fire the ion canon.

Maybe the Imperial Engineers dug a big tunnel?

The SW films always have had a terrible sense of time. You never quite know how long each film takes place over.

Not sure if it's still canon but the MF had a backup class 18 hyperdrive. So that's why it took "months" to go from Hoth to Bespin.

Where does it say it took months?

Yes... I think this was all pretty clearly laid out by the movie, actually.

Well the walking through the shield isn't really explained well until TPM. The rest of it yes.

True, not as directly explained as in TPM, but I got from these parts...

"General, prepare your troops for a surface attack."

"Make ready to land our troops beyond the energy shield and deploy the fleet so that nothing gets off that system."

... that they'd be able to land far away and walk back in. And the shield is actually described as being able to deflect "bombardment".

I agree, I think it was told well in ESB, GL and Irvin just didn't have the time to actually show it happening (although it would have been cool to see a few advance Rebel squads defending the landing zones).

It kind of reminds me of how Joss Whedon (I think it was him) criticized TESB for ending on a cliff hanger. When a movie is as universally praised as TESB is, some in the business seem to think that having something to critique about it sets them apart or something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, though. :p

Coming from Whedon, who has not a cinematic bone in his body. Stick to critiquing high school-grade humor, Joss, and leave film criticism to your betters. :p

I don't mind Firefly, as Whedon is better in the television medium (though I still find that show to be a bit of a damp squib, and was not surprised at its cancellation). But he should stay away from film. Not a shred of artistry to any of them, IMO. Which is why my nightmare is a Whedon Star Wars movie.

That part I can agree with. He has more in common with Michael Bay than Stanley Kubrick. He is an entertainer more than a visionary.
