This is why Lucas is a priceless resource.

Ideas literally flow nonstop from his mind. Like him or hate him, look at Clone Wars - he hasn't slowed down at all - plus Hondo, Cad Bane and Aurra Sing are as tough and cool as SW rogues come. With a really good writer, it's a dream come true.

I think the best actor to play Han Solo should be Kevin Beacon, he definite has the look for it. Great news

    Great news.

Also, once it was revealed Lucas spoke to Hamill and Fisher a while back, kinda figured they were involved.

If anyone's CV would make a producer confident in a writer's abilities to write EP7 in one go without rewrites, it's Michael Arndt's. That's one impressive CV.

With just story treatments? The pre-production needs a complete script in order to work out the finer details. However, your point is valid. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have some spectacular concept art and basic character designs worked out.

Not really. ANH, ESB, AOTC and ROTS all started design and R&D before there was a script.

Just going by what I've seen via 'Making Of' vids from Lucasfilm in the past. GL is normally in constant contact with the design folks even in the earliest stages of development - even before he's got a full script.
The only question is how long the ST has actually been in the works, and when GL got the ball rolling on all this.
    Exciting stuff, either way!

Makes you wonder who would be sheparding this design process. George? Kathleen? The phantom director?

The official announcement on Starwars.com actually states that pre-production has begun. They're clearly much further along than they will have anyone think. TBH, it would not surprise me one bit if a director hasn't already been hired. Either that, or they're literally a week or two away from giving someone the job.

George chose the May slots, for good luck, since it used to be a "dead" month for releases but SW was such an unexpected hit. I had a feeling they'd change that once he stepped out of the picture. But May to July seems an eternity now...

I don't take your meaning, Cooly. What possible difference could it make? I'm not trolling, either - I'm genuinely curious. Is there something about the female sensibility that you think would lend itself well here?

I would plotz. Then I would demand a David Bowie cameo.

scriptwise what I want, character development, arc etc.. Yoda force ghost, quiet personal scenes on real sets, low lit, don't go nuts on battles and over do cg, look at empire strikes back etc. Research mythology, go deep into joseph campbell mythology for research and then make really deep.

He's one of my top choices. I think he could deliver something excellent. Moon and Source Code are phenomenal films.

He does seem to come up with a heap of ideas on a regular basis. I'm guessing the first thought of developing the ST entered his mind while working on TCW. The series has high production values, so he probably thought it was a shame that Lucasfilm's skills weren't being put to use on another SW feature film within his lifetime.
