it's actually just the Bavarians that have it and share it with the real Germany and tourists :p

the explanation as to why we have that... can probably be found under some "history" link on some neuschwanstein site :p

Besides... it's a bit too far up in the mountains. I prefer its little brother - the tiny castle called Linderhof.

that castle was build by a crazy (I mean that, he had some sort psychologic problems) bavarian king about 100 yeas ago. he (was?) drowned in a lake near munich. He wanted a cinderella castle so he built Neuschwanstein.

EDIT: It's not really far up in the mountains.... it's in the first mountian chain of the alps. you can see it from some parts of Füssen and Füssen is fairly flat.

You usually meet Japanese and American there... some japanese offered to buy it, take it down and then re-build it somewhere in Japan.

I've been there two times, it's nice and a *lot* of tourists !

I've also been to Linderhof, which I actually liked a little bit more, because of the Park around it. ;)

Yes, I also don't read in the BILD...
btw: I can't see the picture....but it should be the castle Neuschwanstein, right? I was never there, but I saw it in Spaceballs and my mother told me that the Americans love it...

Linderhof...hum...I think I visitet as well....but the only thing I can remeber about it is that it had a cute yellowish colour (that's Linderhof, right?...[face_blush] )

What Janne said. The strange bavarians had a psychologic ill king who spend their tax money for building various palaces to enjoy it...
I could tell here a mean joke why the Bavarians are that way they are... ;)

    Don't know, Flo. ;)

Great so because my German heritage is Bavarian that means I am not really German? :p

And not only was Ludwig II crazy, he was also gay. Had a little thing for Wagner... :D

I doubt that. I'd rather assume the King was long dead befoire Wagner was born (I mean Wagner, the composer).

    That's wrong:

    Ludwig II: 25.08.1845 - 13.06.1886
    Wagner, Richard: 22.05.1813 - 13.02.1883

It's also said that Ludwig was a big admirer of Wagner and that he sponsored his lifestyle and also helped to built the "Festspielhaus" at Bayreuth.
And in tha Wikipedia artical it's said that Luwig II was probably gay.

    Doubt that Alrik! [face_batting]

    :p

Then you must mean a different Wagner than I do.

I just looked at Wikipedia and came to the conclusion that I meant Sigfried Wagner. :p

I walked all the way up there from Füssen, which is why I don't like its location. The Linderhof trekking tour wasn't half as tiring. By the way... I was there with a bunch of U.S. Americans :p.

It wasn't a guided tour... these folks (acquaintances of mine) thought I was a perfect tour guide just because I was German. Tough luck, I hadn't seen any of the places before, either.

Just the basics; I told them what little I actually knew which happened to be enough to make them happy. I also gave them a piece of the Berlin wall (a piece of concrete I had painted), and they went home happier still ^_^.
