Luke's age

How old is Luke supposed to be in ANH?

 

As far as I know, about 20.

All the reference books I've seen--ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE, THE STAR WARS ENCYCLOPEDIA--have established Luke as being born 18 B.B.Y. (18 years before the Battle of Yavin).

 

This depends on two things :

* Whether Luke is born in Ep3 or not
* What timeframe Ep3 is based in

At the moment, I've been led to believe that Ep3 is set about 20 years before ANH...and that Luke and Leia, as twins, will be both born in it.

I'd say Luke looks and acts a little younger than 20, but those two things were what I was basing my guess on. If the Jedi kids aren't shown in Ep3 or the timeframe is shifted, fine, but that's the information I had at the moment.

 

I was thinking that (since the kids had already been established as 18 in ANH), if Luke and Leia are born in Ep3 and Lucas says it's twenty years before ANH, you could say the "twenty years" thing is just a rounding off.

 

The ANH novel pegs him as 18.

Let's see, now.

TPM is 32 years before ANH.

AOTC is 22 years before ANH.

Ep. III is between 18-20 years before ANH.

That places Luke between 18-20.


You'd think Luke and Leia would have realized they shared the same birthday, eh?

 

Actually, the ANH novel places Luke at 20. Unfortunately, it places Leia at 18.

 

Which is impossible because the two of them are twins.

I recall seeing a line in ANH that stated Luke was 18.

Even if EP3 shows the birth of Luke/Leia the age could still remain the same (for the most part). Nowhere does it state how long Luke had been 18, so one could argue he was about to turn 19. That then reduces it down to only a one year difference and depending on EP3, that could work.

 

EP3 takes place at 19 BBY. If Padmé is pregnant throughout the film, that means the twins would be born towards the end, and would thus be 18 during ANH.

 

and to elaborate. it isnt like luke turned 18 the day we saw him in ANH, he could be 10 or 11 months into his 18th year. so that might help the 20 year deal.

So how old would Leia be?

Luke's age probably the same as Leia's at least I hope it is.

 

I guess the official timeframe for Ep3 will settle it. I just thought it was still planned to be 20 years before ANH, that's what they've had on the EU timeline for a couple years now.

And yeah, Luke and Leia would be the same age.

 

It is well-known that EP3 now takes place at 19 BBY.

 

Unless a change was made Luke was 20 in ANH. The novel states he was twice the age of the 10 year old vaporator he was working on when the Tantive was over Tantooine.

 

Luke's age is exactly the number of this post minus one.

Luke and Leia are 20 years old because the timegap between Episode 3 and ANH is also 20 years.
