ST Lupita Nyong'o (Maz Kanata) in Episode VII

I might be alone on this but does anyone else get a Grace Jones kinda vibe from Lupita? Grace was really bada$$ in that Bond film "A View to a Kill":

 

Lupita is a better actress than Grace was. I hope she has a villainous role that is really meaty and not just the typical role

 

Yeah no comparisons to Grace Jones please. Grace Jones was unintentionally terrifying.

I don't even read Vogue, but man she looks stunning!

 

I can already picture her with yellow eyes and a dark hood.

 

I hope her costume is inspired by some of McCaig's previously unused concept art.

That would be fine by me! I'm just running with the rumor (formerly thought to be debunked, but then resurrected).

Hard to imagine someone with such a sweet face playing a villain. Perhaps that's why they are trying out the yellow contacts...

There is such a thing as makeup.

 

True. But sometimes too much can turn a character into a caricature. Whether good, evil, or a switch hitter, my hope is that she gets to play something substantial.

Or better yet, we believe.

 

So I know it's totally passé to suggest that Lupita plays Ventress at this point. But I'm gonna try to keep the idea alive if for no other reason than Lupita's thread has been ignored for too long.

In TCW Ventress hangs with Obi Wan for a bit. I think they kinda bonded. Some very OT banter between them. So I'm gonna suggest that Lupita isn't an offspring of Obi Wan but an old friend of his.

At any rate, perhaps Ventress (let's just assume her species is very long lived) runs into Luke and they discover that they have a mutual old friend. This could be the beginning of a wonderful new friendship.

I am the first to admit this is a flimsy argument.

 

I still don't think she'll play Ventress. And even though I liked Ventress in TCW, I don't want to see her in E7.

Also related to Lupita... I finally saw 12 Years a Slave today. Wow.

 

Yeah, I don't think she will, nor do I want her to, play Ventress, but the idea of her being a villain (Sith, Sith offshoot or something else) has grown on me. Noyong'o as a hero is a little too on the nose IMO. But as a villain... that would be interesting.

 

I've seen it twice if that's any consolation.

 

I thought it was really good, but difficult to watch at times. And Lupita was really good in it.

 

I have a feeling she'll be playing Ashoka. I think this would be amazing

 

I wouldn't mind her playing Ahsoka, but that could probably only work if Ahsoka's race ages a lot slower than humans. It's hard for me to see Lupita as a villain. She seems like she would be a hero, but who knows at this point.

 

Well Ahsoka isn't human, so it's okay. It works because I'd assume Luke would try and figure out his fathers past and Ahsoka is also someone that is still a living Jedi in that universe, an order Luke needs to rebuild. I have a strong feeling we see her
