Back on Maz, she certainly looks more like a steampunk-ET than a wise old pirate.

I don't like her design right now but it might grow on me.

 

What does a 1000 year old wise pirate look like

 

There were leaked Maz concepts which had a wrinkly older looking alien with a bandana, less cute and probably not as marketable to kids.

 

If you flatten Maz's dome - she basically is ET facially.

I like that Maz doesn't quite look the way we would expect. It goes back to the OT reveal of Yoda.

 

Maybe not. Let's just give it a try and see. I was a little worried about Maz and Snoke being mo cap, now I'm cool after seeing it looks like it will fit in well.

 

I did really like that first design (which is, I think, the basis for the animatronic puppet we saw in the BTS video). But I see a more unique character potential with the final design.

Maz
is the eternal well the directors can utilize. Need to source some prequels, need to cannonize some useful EU stuff....go to Maz. The length of her life and her sight abilities are there for this purpose. She not only ties all 6, but gives directors nearly unlimited characters and plot points to go to. From a production perspective, the most important character in the movie. Unless she's Qui-Mauled

 

Well with 1000 years she could have been there during Bane's era. If the god are good Disney will ask Karpyshyn to rewrite the Bane trilogy to fit the new continuity. With the Revan stuff intact, but with some added Maz stuff.

 

Absolutely agree Bane is already cannon with the Yoda clone wars scene, the Bane trilogy is some of the best SW stuff around. I hope future directors see and use this potential JJ has given them. With him exec. producer in 8 maybe that will be the case.

d) Probably Leia but could work with anyone who isn't Rey

Wonder what would happen if Maz ever got a hold of Vadar's mask/Anakin's skull. What would she see through those eyes? Doubt it happens but just an interesting thought.
