why did mace windu, supposedly second only to yoda in jedi ranking, feel the need to behead & kill jango fett on geonosis?

surely a better idea would have been to at least attempt to capture jango as he was the key to understanding that tyranus & dooku are one and the same and therefore the whole clone wars are a sham!

GL had him beheaded on purpose that way all the Fett fanboys would know he's dead.

Mace saw the need to kill Jango Fett because Fett was shooting at him...

Ah, the Mace vs. Jango question. Is it Thursday already?

Obi-Wan didn't have several hundred droids ready to kill him if he didn't finish Jango quick. I can't think of a believable way for Mace to restrain Jango without Jango getting loose and causing more havoc later or Mace getting cut down by droids while he enacted a plan.

Jango Fett approached Mace Windu. For whatever reason, Jango went after Mace. Mace protected himself. He closed in on Jango and beheaded him. end of story...

most fearsome bounty hunter in the galaxy

ya real fearsome. I did his best to run away from Obi-wan on Kamino and was useless w/out his gadgets on Genosis. Boy that's scary.

What was Mace supposed to do? Jango was trying to kill him. Its not like he only had Jango to focus on either. He had the Reek and thousands of Battle Droids. He had to deal with Jango quickly.

I believe if you read the novelization of the event, Mace has no intention of decapitating Jango. He swings around to block another attack, and ly cuts off his head

(lol i know it sounds lame but that is in the book)

also, I believe the novel Shatterpoint addresses Windu's regret for beheading Fett as opposed to capturing him. Windu ultimately realizes that he didn't really have a choice at the time and forgives himself.

Actually it's more proof Mace in cohoots w/Sidious. Notice the look he gives Yoda when Obi-wan is communicating from Kamino. Mace knew about the clones. Then on Genosis, Mace puts his blade to Jango's throat, as if to say "keep your mouth shut", then, instead of loping off his arms, Mace beheads him to keep him silent.

Mace killed Jango because they were at war and Jango was trying to kill him. In war there is only 1 rule of combat. Kill or be killed.

The only reason you would spare someone in that situation and capture them is if that had valuable information that need to be obtained.

The reason Yoda wanted him for questioning was to determine who hired him, and who was responsible for creating the clone army. Once they arrived at Geonosis, they found their answer: Count Dooku. (At least they THINK they found the answer.) Once they "realize" that Count Dooku is behind this, they no longer need to bring Fett in for questioning.

    So Mace offed him. [face_rofl])

    amazing, absolutely amazing.

how is it possible u have watched AOTC yet think that when yoda & mace arrive they know that dooku ordered the clones?????

so the jedi know they are commanding an army commissioned by the head of the enemy????

    think how ridiculous this sounds!

of course the jedi dont know dooku ordered the clones

they dont know dooku is "tyranus"

THIS IS THE INFORMATION THEY SHOULD HAVE OBTAINED FROM JANGO!!!

I agree, kill or be killed. The guys dead, his character served his purpose. What role could he have had in episode 3?

    thats not the point here

had jango not been killed, he could have been forced to admit dooku & tyranus were the same person

    therefore dooku ordered the clones

therefore the clones should not be trusted

therefore the clone war never happens

therefore the republic/millions of lives/the jedi are saved

In this case, I do agree..what more could Mace have done? Jango WAS a threat who did afterall kill a Jedi Master, also, what more was Mace to do? "Ok, I've cut off your arm and leg, dont crawl anywhere while I deal wit.." *gets shot in the back by destroyer droid* "damn yo"

Mace had a perfectly understandble reason for doing what he did.
