It's a completely meaningless statement, of course. Lucas said the same thing about Darth Maul after Episode I, and he had personal control of the franchise.

 

Sean comes to mind when he said he was done playing Bond. Mace can come back as a force ghost, considering he left apart of himself before he was killed in ROTS.

 

You know that's the point about flashbacks it doesn't actually require to the characters involved to be alive in the present if it takes place before the ROTS started now doesn't it?

Being dead in as timeline-hopping series as Star Wars has always been a very certain-point-of-view-matter. Obi-Wan has been dead since 1977 and he just co-starred in a comic book. Han Solo died and he's going to have his own movie.

 

And even if he 'really' is dead (as much as that means something in a fictional universe), he could make reappearances as recordings, a Holocron, Force Ghost, clone...

Does not mean the character is to be alive post ROTS as neither was Obi Wan post ROTJ.

Of course Mace Windu is alive. Of course he is.

It wasn't at all unlikely that they'd bring him back to face Vader in the EU before the Disney acquisition. In the present age of spin off movies, it's a nigh certainty.

Honestly, I'm surprised they're wasting time with a risky, non-Ford Han Solo film that no-one really wants when they could make guaranteed bank on WINDU V VADER -- DAWN OF JUSTICE, or whatever.

The duel between Palpatine and the Jedi Council was kind of a disappointment, obviously. Imagine a world where Mace Windu lets Anakin come help arrest the Sith Lord - both because Anakin was the one who tipped them off and it was good work on the kid's part, and also because what if maybe the prophecy is true after all? why risk it? - and in the middle of the fight, when Palpatine's back is against the wall and the combined might of six of the most powerful and skilled Jedi in the galaxy has him scared...that's when he appeals to Anakin about Padmé, that's when we get the speech about how "Look at all you've contributed here, and yet they won't let you sit on the Council. You're merely a weapon to them. You could be so much more!" And that's when Anakin steps into the fray beside Palpatine. Suddenly they've got the Jedi Council on the ropes, and it's Anakin and Palpatine against the Jedi Council and Anakin is free to really open up his engine for the first time, as Anakin dispatches the Council and takes the fight against Mace Windu into the City Streets, all the while Mace Windu is trying to get Anakin to see clearly what's happening, to tell him, "Anakin, this is exactly what the Council predicted. Don't you see? He's using you. This is what we've been warning you about. But you're better than this! Master Kenobi prepared you for this! Don't let the dark side cloud your judgment! Yeah, I think this is what Anakin fears but there's, like, nothing really to support this. Yoda seems pretty understanding about attachment. If nothing else, Obi-Wan seems to be a pretty chummy guy on this issue.

 

One word that in Anakin's mind justifies all these fears: Ahsoka.

Oh yeah! I totally agree on that point - I think it absolutely adds fuel to the fire for Anakin's fear of infraction. I wonder how close he was to telling anyone about what was going on. After the war, I think there's a real chance of Anakin peacefully leaving the Order to go live happily with Padmé.

 

It's kind of different. It was right after TPM movie and of course he would say that, and then years later he changes that.

And more importantly, Maul is a Dark Sider, Mace is a Light Sider. Completely different situations.
