Stabbing someone in the back, even with an elegant weapon from a civilsed age, is ungentlemanly. Mace's mistake was not to have asked Dooku to pull his finger. To go on... pull his finger. I bet Dooku would've. Then Mace could've farted and they'd all lol and be buddies again. Clone wars averted, they could all have gone to the pub instead.
It would have only delayed the war. The war, on both sides, was manufactured by Palpatine. It was going to happen one way or another.
Mace's mistake was dropping out of school. Or smoking too much pot. Or getting close enough to the tauntaun that kicked him in the head. Or whatever it was that made him too stupid to think his way out of a wet paper bag. Watch all his scenes, especially the ones in Episode VI. This is not a clever man, people.
Are they going to add Mace's Force Ghost? I wonder what his conversation with Anakin is going to be like
Ruthlessly killing someone without them even knowing you're there? Not at all the "Jedi way". Based on all things Star Wars, that sounds like a shortcut to the dark side to me. ----- General Grievous: it is a volcanic planet- Obi: *heres my chance to sneak up and kill the- I can't it's not the Jedi way.. Hello there!!!! .
You know...Obi-Wan seeing the entire darn Sep Council made me want to kick the Council in its collective rear. If he'd just had Anakin with him, the war would have ended. Right there. One of them goes to capture the Seps, passes them off to the clones, then they convert Grievous into bits of molten steel. No opportunity for Palpatine to chivy between them, and the Empire never happens. But nooo, the Council wanted Anakin to stay.
That reminds me: how come the Separatist leadership always escapes whenever the Republic attacks a planet they're on?
They have connections It helps when the leader of the opposite side doesn't want them killed until the right time comes.
Mace's mistake was not using the force to get Anakins light saber he saw that Anakin was confused. If he grabs Anakin's light saber he doesn't get his hand cut off. And what made me boil with anger was that Anakin saves Sidious life and kneels down to learn from his teachings because he doesn't want Padme dead, ok I get that. But Sidious immediately says he doesn't know how to save Padme but if they work together they can. WTF!? Right then and there Anakin should have realized this guy is full of it and just killed him
I never understood why Anakin had to cut off Mace's hand. He could have just as easily blocked Mace's attack and then made his argument about how it's not the Jedi way (despite the obvious hypocricy of that argument after he's already killed Dooku).
ahh, but you see it's not hypocrisy to some people apparently Anakin was completely justified in killing an unarmed prisoner.. oh well,
One argument I've seen is that, with a Force-User, there's no such thing as unarmed. Even without hands, Dooku could Force Choke, or shoot Sith Lightning from his stumps.
In the book Mace actually does point that out: Mace: "what about Dooku?" Anakin: "That was different!" Mace: "You can explain the difference after he's dead."
Maybe not at that precise moment- but at some point. Mace knows at least that Anakin killed Dooku. And he might know that it was more "execution" than "self-defence".
