Give it the Oscars. All of them. Best Supporting Actress goes to Mad Max: Fury Road.

I'll definitely give this a watch since George Miller's doing it.

And, while not as good as the first two, Beyond Thunderdome is actually pretty good.

Thunderdome is indeed pretty good. Not a bad movie at all. I think the disconnect comes from it being pretty much a kids movie. First two were dark, and very adult movies. Third one....kids movie. Interesting enough it's the one people probably remember most.

Be interesting to find out the reasons why they took the movie in that direction?

Because it was originally a whole different movie about children in the desert, before Max was added to it. It shows.

It helps to have a catchy song complete with MTV music video.

Now that's surprising to learn - when I watched Thunderdome all I could think was that it was basically a rehash of Road Warrior with a bungee cord sequence.

    No @#$%? Interesting.

Love to have been there for that decision making process. I wonder at what point they decided, "This movie would be a lot better with Mad Max."

I read an article about how the whole thing went down. I'll try tracking it down.

    Interview with director George Miller

Did you have any thought of doing it with Mel as an older version of Max?
We were going to back in 2000 and 2001. We were going to do it with Mel and we were within reach of doing it with Mel. Then 9/11 happened and the American dollar fell against the Australian dollar. The budget ballooned. There was a lot of pressure at Warner Bros. for me to do "Happy Feet" back then because there was only a small window where they could get the digital house. So we went on to do that. By the time we were ready for "Fury Road" again, Mel had all those troubles. It also definitely got to the stage where it wasn't like "Unforgiven," where it plays with an older guy. It was definitely the younger guy, the same guy.

There's all kinds of info regarding the Mad Max films at www.madmaxmovies.com.

I love the first 45 minutes of Thunderdome, after that, no. The first Mad Max is my favorite, but I understand why people lose their minds with the Road Warrior.

I am cautiously optimistic about Mad Max Fury Road. Looks crazy in all the best ways possible and having Toe Cutter back as a new villain is another win. The R rating is good to see too.

Out of the ruins, out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children, the last generation
We are the ones they left behind

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear till nothing else remains

    We don't need another reboot
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome

Looking for something we can rely on
There's got to be something better out there
Love and compassion, their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear till nothing else remains

All the children say, "We don't need another reboot
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome"

So what do we do with our lives?
    We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a life
Or end in the dark? Is it all or nothing?

We don't need another reboot, reboot
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome

All the children say, "We don't need another reboot
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome"

I revisited the first two Mad Max films last Fall (I gave them 7/10 and 8/10 respectively), but I haven't seen Beyond Thunderdome since the Clinton administration. A couple of days ago I saw it poking out of the morass that is the bargain Blu-Ray bin at Wal-Mart and I started to grab it, but instantly memories of the second half came flooding in. The lesson of Beyond Thunderdome is one my parents ultimately learned; Kids ruin everything. So I left it there between copies of an unrated edition of Hall Pass and Green Lantern.

I would love to have seen one last go 'round with Mel as an older Max ala something like Unforgiven. Then they could've rebooted the whole thing with Justin Bieber for all I care. But I am very curious about Fury Road. It looks as if it'll either be better than chunky peanut butter or a disaster on par with New Coke. I don't see much middle ground with this one.

I'm ridiculously pumped for this. I love Mad Max; going to be weird after so many years, and without Mel Gibson but Fury Road genuinely looks good.

I like Fallout's Vault 13 cameo. If I were going to make a Fallout movie, it would look a bit like this, only with more two-headed cows.

    Final trailer:

If this movie is as awesome as it promises, we might run into a problem. Every other movie will forever be irrelevant.
