ST Maisie Richardson-Sellers in Episode VII

Interestingly they only made an official announcement for Clarke. I guess only Daisy got the role for Rachel.

 

My guess is they that they were all up for the same role of the female lead. But, the runner-ups were then filtered or offered other roles. Since, the casting directors had probably large/diverse portfolios from the auditions.

That may have ramifications for whether or not Rey is a legacy character. My guess is that maybe ethnic makeup might have played a part of it. They could have originally envisioned the male lead to be caucasian. Therefore, the female lead( or the other male lead)was going to be a different ethnicity.

But, Ridely(I would guess) may have impressed the most which may be the reason why she was cast first. So, they may have decided to go in a different direction with the other actors.

This is just speculation on my part.

 

Since Carrie Fisher's assistant said he loved his Star Wars girls and named Carrie, Maisie, and Billie in a tweet back in June, I'd venture a guess and say whoever Sellers is playing has some connection to those other actresses on screen. The first thing that pops into my head are handmaidens or aides to Leia who is now said to be a top leader in the Alliance/Republic. Someone has to be her assistant or secretary. Though I suppose she could just be some rebel on the base or part of a political delegation that meets with Princess Leia.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Kiran Shah, Jessica Henwick, Miltos Yerolemou, Christina Chong, Billie Lourd, and Greg Grunberg just seem to be playing minor characters (or aren't returning alumni) and thus no casting announcements. If there's any secrecy about not highlighting them, it's probably because Lucasfilm needs nor wants a laundry list of people we can milk for clues. It's like an iceberg, the big roles are the ones they announced and appear above the water, but the sheer number of minor roles make up the bulk of the ice and are hidden underneath the surface.

 

Maybe she is playing the lovechild of Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian.

It's obviously not than fun to discuss ethnicity in lead roles, and I do believe that we have other forums for this. But I think you've got a point. What bugs me though is why they don't want the two lead roles of opposite sexes to have the same ethnicity.

Maisie and Daisy (LOL they even rhyme) could very well have been up for the same role. If that's the case, I'm sure we'll know in one year after the premiere, when all the actors finally can start talk freely about the film.

 

Yeah, he does cameos in all of JJ's movies.

 

She's hot.

 

She is. But between Ridley, Chong, Clarke and Henwick, you will barely notice her.

Still it is good to see her more or less confirmed now.

he seems to think it's really her character name because of it's listing on Spotlight UK.

 

So we know a minor supporting character's name but still don't have the names of Gleeson's or Serkis's characters.
