Make anamorphic or widescreen video

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a program, preferable freeward, that will allow me to take a widescreen quicktime file and make it either anamorphic or add black bars to the top and bottom of the video to maintain the aspect ratio. If I try to put fan films that don't have widescreen bars on a DVD, most programs just automatically make the video size fit and distort the picture. Thanks for the help.

 

Well, if you have any of the adobe programs then you can change the aspect ratio quite easily. Fortunetly for me, my camera shoots in widescreen and i just put the settings for 16x9 on my comp. But even programs like Windows Movie Maker can do that nowadays... Hope this helped you any.

Basically what you're looking to do (if I understand correctly) is take a widescreen QT file and export it as a standard-format file. I'm pretty sure the free program VirtualDub could do it - you may want download it and give it a shot.
