Okay, in KOTOR II, the Mandalorians, save for Canderous, wore armor that looked like this:

However, the Flashpoint arc of the KOTOR comics has Mando gear running the whole gamut from the KOTOR II armor to Mandalore the Ultimate's TOTJ armor, to Rohlan's seemingly custom armor, and finally, to some armor that Jaster and his men from Open Seasons wear.
Here're some pics from the KOTOR comic that showcase the wide variety of armor:

Mandalore the Ultimate, leader of the Mandalorians. Note the Mandalorian in the background with gold-colored KOTOR II armor

Commander Rohlan Dyre's apparently custom gear

Jareal surrounded by Mandos. Note the one directly to the right of her whose helmet curiously does not have the T-visor that is the trademark of Mandalorian armor.

Finally, Mandalorian scientist Demagol shows how Mandalorian armor can be adapted to fit other species.

So does anyone here know why the armor of the Neo-Crusaders is such an eclectic collection? Is it simply artistic license? Or was Mandalore the Ultimate more permissive when it came to outfitting his men's beskar'gam?

    Thoughts, comments, critiscisms?

IIRC, the author said over at the DHC boards or his site that the standardization of armor would be a plot point. Or at least something touched upon.

That particular fellow's helmet is based on an unused concept design for Boba Fett.

I would think, given their tendency towards eclectic individuality, that Mandalore doesn't really have much say in the matter; each warrior chooses and/or builds and modifies his armour as it suits him.

This guy is a little annoying:

That's not a helmet, that's a mask. Other than that, I'm all for variety and such. If they explained the shift from wartime variation to postwar standardization, that'd be great, but I like what they're doing now.

I would imagine you see TOTJ-esque armor because of the old adage: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Probably the same reason we see similar armor millenia later in Open Seasons. The basic armor works and only needs minor upgrades from time-to-time.

As to Rohlan, I imagine the spikes are not simply aesthetic, but symbolic (from an OOU POV, since he has them well before deserting). I read his backstory and look at the spikes and they send a message to me that says something along the lines of "Don't you dare touch me to make me fight your rediculous war again."

Yet remember there were also the different kinds of Mandalorian armour that the Player could find such as Mando combat suits, heavy suits, battle armor, assault armor, heavy armour. So maybe all the variety of armour we see are what those sets of armour looked like instead of what the game with its limited styles and graphics show. And the armour we see on all the Mandalorians in the game the regular battle armour.

Yeah-I'ld cahlk the limited number of models in game as part of the limitations of beinga game. Can you imagine programing a unique model fro every single Mandolorian you fight? Customised armor is part of mandolorian culture. Matter of fact, I am disapointed that modern "customized" armor still looks the same.

I goota give mad props for coming up with so many cool armor designs, making each one so diffrent-yet so Mandolorian.

Back on topic: to be fair, you also see the KOTOR syle armor show up pretty often.

If you are referring to Jango/Boba...He's a clone...his sense of taste is going to be pretty fraggin close to Jangos...anything after that is more a tribute to the legacy of Boba then an attachment to Mando roots.
