Karen, i cant belive you alreayd have over 1000 words! If i was making a launguage, if i went over 50, i would go crazy. After you are done with RC hard contact and your mando'a dictonary, i beg you to right more mandalorian novels. There is a huge gap between the prequels and KOTOR, and then the mandalorian wars have very little in organized history. You could be us mando enthusiats flag ship author. (after all, you have got to be interested in mandos to make them a launguage)

I bet you already have these words, but since Mandalorians are warriors, they would most likely use words like:

    Cover( I need covering fire!)
    Cordinate(s)( i need artilary at cordinate 2.8)
Charge!( i bet you've got this one)
Pull back, or retreat( retreat, retreat)
    reinforcements( we need reinforcements!
bombard( bombard that bunker with some grenades/rockets)
Surrender( mandos wont do that, but people will to them)
    for more viscous stuff:
    Leave non alive!
    No Mercy!

Dont take it as an insutlt that i provided some ()s using the word, it is a tendancy of mine...

Boba wins. I know my limits.

I've got two words for apology added to the list now. Felt a little unnatural somehow...

    *thinks for a moment*

Well, they could sound unnatural alone, but I expect the Mando'ade to say sorry wryly and coldly in context.... ie about two seconds after their Verpine round shattered their foes skull.

Cue "Oops" or "Sorry about that"

    :p

Yes, Fi says "Oops..." rather a lot. That fits the mindset.

There you go then, the Mando'ade struck me as a civilised bunch of soldiers anyway, and that makes more sense than...

*cue stereotypical British colonial voice after shooting a Verpine round into someones skull*

"Terribly sorry about that old chap! I appear to have hit a spot of bother with the firing pin of this here contraption"

They have a separate phrase for "You're welcome" or "Don't mention it". I did think about the danke schon/ bitte schon thing (apologies for lack of umlauts) but went with a totally different phrase in the end.

Ok, nice to know. I know your keyboard hasn't got "umlauts", so never mind ;)

That's okay, I'm never insulted. Good ideas - some of those I have covered, some not.

I have under 1000 words, actually, but that's growing by about ten a day. Trouble is, it's addictive. I ought to be working on my next novel now...

I'd be happy to do Mando novels if LFL wanted them and if they asked me. No idea what their plans are, though.

Beg them to let you do it.

    Or threaten with your Verp.

    Whichever gets results.

    :p

Cross-posted: ne'tra gal is black ale, like stout or Guinness.

    ne'tra = black
    gal = ale

Just wondering, would ner vodebe, my brothers? Corran Fett says that ner vod means my brother, and vode means brothers, but i am not sure if there is a special conjugation to go with it.

The joy of Mando'a is that you don't have to make adjectives and possessives agree with nouns.

    So it's ner vod - my brother/ sister/ comrade

    (pr: nair vohd)

    and

    ner vode - my brothers/ sisters/ comrades

    (pr: nair VOH-day)

Vod also means "mate" for all Brits and Aussies out there. I'm incapable of conducting a conversation without the word "mate".

Udesii is "calm down" or "take it easy". A very useful phrase, I find.

Burc'ya is friend. Careful hwo you use that one.

    Yes, indeed *g*

I'll sit on the "enemy" one for a while, because explaining it will involve going through a whole lot of background on the way the Mandos see the non-Mando world.

Burc'ya, by the way, is like "pal" - say it in one tone of voice and it's friendly, say it in another and it's not.

EDIT: forgot to add - it's pronounced BOOR-sha.
