That was a great way to add some backstory of Tag and his corruption of the Dinarra Police. Combined with some lovely A/T moments and more great interaction between your OC's and it all adds up to another amazing chapter.

And you keep giving out hints about what Tahiri wants for her birthday. Can't wait to see if I'm right or not.:D

Again, great update and can't wait for the next one!

    You win.

    :p

?He was Tag's accountant ? harmless little man really, except he'd let himself get caught up in Tag's paranoia. One of the sad facts of human and non-human nature alike it seems ? no matter how crazy the leader, there will always be a bunch of followers willing to be deceived.?

    Ain't that the truth.

?After some investigation, I discovered that the women had helped tend to some people injured in a local accident ? had saved them apparently. It turns out they were healers. Next day they had disappeared from their hotel. The hotel manager had reported the disappearance to local security, but on subsequent follow-ups was given the message that the matter was being investigated.?
Anakin leaned forward and rested an elbow on the worn surface of the table. ?So Tag must have seen the accident or heard about it, and assumed they were Jedi.?
?And the local security group were working with him,? Tahiri added.

That makes sense now. I can't remember if we already knew why the Mantrusians got picked up.

Toberof's eyes narrowed shrewdly ? obviously a sign that he concurred with Anakin's analysis. ?From what you've described, I'd say he was certainly well prepared for Jedi. Just not Jedi small enough to climb through air vents.?

    [face_laugh]

Anakin received the distinct impression that the movement was performed to mask Toberof's amusement, and it occurred to him that the two Balmorrans shared a similar sense of humour with Wedge and Tycho ? in other words, one that was somewhat incomprehensible.

    lol!

That was a great scene and I Toberof and Chastin (great name) make a good team. Was nice to have all the little holes filled in :)

?If those women weren't both already taken, I'd be tarting myself up,? said Chukka to Vehn and Qorl

    [face_laugh]

?Cookie anyone?? Tahiri asked waving a plate under his nose. ?Dajira brought them,? she explained in response to his quizzical look. ?Along with a whole lot of other yummy stuff.?

I already liked Dajira, but she just got infinitely cooler for making cookies [face_love]

?No, we're the normal bunch,? quipped Vehn, and turned to Qorl. ?Aren't we, old buddy??
But Qorl was already pulling himself stiffly to his feet. ?I just need to check up on something, with, uh, young Anakin,? he said, and headed towards the door that led to the kitchen.
Vehn folded his arms and squinted after his friend, rubbing the eye that had been almost blinded by the stokhli spray stick when he'd been trying to wrestle the portable cannon off Tag and his Weequay companion.
Shorty cleared his throat. ?So what's the big deal with the kid? Is he giving away the family fortune or something??
Vehn shook his head. ?It's code,? he replied cryptically.
    ?Code?? frowned Chukka. ?Whaddya mean??
?Going to see Anakin. It's code,? Vehn explained, but was rewarded with a blank look from both swoopers.
Purr exhaled loudly. ?Geez, you guys, are you both thick or something? He means L.O.V.E.'s in the air.?

I'm glad creepy Qorl has finally found someone.

Shorty's mouth fell open making his face appear twice as long as it already was. ?They're in love with the kid?? he gasped.

    [face_laugh] :_|

Great post, Tahi =D= It was really nice to catch up with Vehn and Qorl and I liked the way old Qorl slipped away to see Neijal [face_mischief] Might want to work on a different code phrase though? that one's going to get people talking even more than if they knew what he was really up to[face_laugh]

I am curious what Blue has to say to Dajira. He seemed very anxious to speak with her.

BTW, will we be seeing the Knights in the MHR sequel, or will be following Anakin and Tahiri to an entirely new adventure with a new cast of characters? I'm going to miss the swoopers if its the latter, but I'm sure either way it will be great :D

    Post more soon!

Before I forget - I have to say I love the quote in your sig. :D It's very earnest. ;) (The best Lady Bracknell IMO was Dame Edith Evans - have you ever seen the old version?)

Back on topic - thanks. :) Glad you liked the entourage.

    Jastal
Thanks so much for the lovely feedback on the chapter. It was fun for me to be able to at last fill in a few gaps. It was way back in the early chapters that Tag revealed a little about his intentions and there were a few scenes where he mentioned how the anti-Peace Brigade Groups had caused him problems. But I'm such a slow writer that it's taken me 5 years to finally get to the point where some of those things can be finally picked up on again. LOL

Thanks again, and I'll be interested to see if you're right about the present, too. :)

    Yoda
That makes sense now. I can't remember if we already knew why the Mantrusians got picked up
In an earlier chapter Vehn told Tendra about how the women had been mistaken for Jedi by Tag - but he didn't say how. So this was a chance to fill in that little gap.

Glad you liked the scene between A and T and the two BIS men. :) Names are quite hard to choose aren't they? It often takes me ages to pick the right name for OCs. Hallelujah for the university contacts list - it's got some very cool names on it. ;)

Poor old Chukka - he's really feeling the need for some warmth and affection.

Glad you like Dajira. It's been nice to write a Twi'lek who runs a bit against the stereotype.

Yeah - I developed a soft spot for old Qorl after reading Keyes's version of him in Conquest. I hope he's beginning to sound less creepy now. :)

It will be interesting to see how Blue - who isn't much good at the romance thing (according to him) - gets on as far as Dajira goes . . . ;) Will he or won't he?

Not sure if I can work the Knights in or not in the sequel. I'm very fond of them, but it might be stretching things to include them. Tricky. Still have a lot to work out as far as such details go.

Thanks for the great feedback. I always enjoy your comments and find them very useful. :)

    Thanks, guys. [:D]

So the security people were suspicious about Tag.... but it took Anakin and Tahiri to get things moving :D I like the way it all fits in and it was very interesting to hear how Tag thought the healers were Jedi. Is there gift some kind of Force thing? or is it different

it's good to see things quietening down and people beginning to relax a bit....you can sort of see their relief but also sadness at losing friends.

it would be good to use the swoopers again....but I can understand what you say about having to choose the set of characters carefully. But if you can use them.... :) that would be awesome
Another hint about the present. I think I might know but still not 100 percent ;)

Lovely update as usual, Tahi. That scene between the intelligence men and Anakin and Tahiri was great, good to see the way the men both seemed to respect the youngsters. :) And so they should. You made me feel for the poor swoopers actually in that chapter withthe way that both Blue and Chukka (? was it) are obviously needing some TLC. It was kind of sweet in a sad way. Looks like Vehn noticed it too. I like that you've showed us more about Vehn and Quorl by the way, and developed them. If we're picking people for your followup story then can I vote for them? :)

    Looking forward to more.

    Hey there Mousie
Yes A and T are good at stirring things along. :) Thanks for the question about the Mantrusian healers. I have a lot of backstory on Mantrusia and the healers that I had to write for my first long story, The Mantrusian Affair. Basically the connection bewteen the Healers and the Force is open-ended at present as I have yet to finish TMA. However I will say that the sequel to this story will also function as a kind of sequel to the Mantrusian story - so it's probable that your question wull be answered eventually. Sorry to be cagey. LOL ;)

Oooh - it could be a tough decision as to which characters to use in the sequel. :D

I'm curious to see if you're right about the pressie. :) Thanks so much for the review.

    KatMom
Glad you liked the scene with Toberof and Chastin - yes I think they DO respect our young Jedi. :) And I'm glad that came through.

Glad also that the sad aspect to the swoopers' humour came through. I suspect that their losses will pull them even closer togather, and bring out the best in them.

Ah - so you like Vehn and Qorl. :) Cool. It would be interesting to see which OCs readers would like to see in the sequel actually. :) I'm happy to hear what people think.

Thanks again both of you. [:D] Appreciate the lovely feedback.

Hey Tahi, I really enjoyed those two chapters. I enjoyed all of the A/T interaction and the redemption of Jaytee. I do like the way that Jedi are always willing to give someone a second chance. Good scene with the law enforcement people as well. I liked the line about them sharing a similar sense of humour to Wedge and Tycho. Vehn and Qorl are also characters I really enjoy. They were great in Conquest and you write them extremely well in this story also. So yeah, congratulations on getting two chapters up in such quick succession, they were terrific. I take it that the end is very near...

Yeah for love! ;) They all deserve some if you ask me after what they've all been through. That was cute what the little kid said (repeating his mother).

Cool chapter with some great swooper interactions, and Vehn getting philosophical. You're really showing us the way they're reacting to the losses and the way tragedy and comedy aren't too far apart. Had to laugh at the business about the "code". :D Just as well Anakin isn't there to get worried at the sudden interest everyone seems to have in him. That'd make a guy uneasy.

Toberof & Chastin make a good team, a lot like Wedge and Tycho. Good work as always

no problem on the praise Tahi, wouldnt say it if I didnt believe it to be true, and I agree about the Rogue and Wraith books, they are what Star Wars is at its best

couple guys in the house I am living in play rugby so I am getting a bit more of an understanding into that game, its still a wee bit confusing but I still think soccer is confusing

its kinda a shame that so many of the people from the lounge have drifted away, but since I did for a while as well, I can surely understand, sometimes life just takes over and free time becomes less and less, hope u have a great holiday season, and I cant wait for more in this wonderful story

Nice work, Tahi! I have always loved the wrap up after all the action. It's just so satifying to see the heros in the "happily ever after"....even though in SW we know it will never last. :p

Yes, the Jedi are big on mercy, even when it goes against what others may want.

As you may have guessed, I'm a big fan of Wedge and Tycho et al - especially as written by Stackpole and Allston. :) Glad you like Vehn and Qorl. :)

I should add "The end is nigh . . . " to my sig, shouldn't I? :D Yes - we're nearly at the end - just a few wee things to give closure to. Thanks so much for the review. :)

    DDR
Yeah for love indeed. :) Glad you liked Kushka's observation and Vehn's philosophical side. ;)

Thanks for the comment about the characters reactions to events. I think it's important to show the fallout of large events form the "normal" person's point of view. Hopefully it adds credence to the fic . . .

Laughed at the point about Anakin and his apparent popularity. :D Thanks so much for the feedback. :)

    force

    Thanks [face_blushing]

Interested to hear that you have some rugby players there. :) Two of my kids used to play the game - it's a semi-religion here. LOL I quite enjoy watching the All Blacks - the national team - play, but I don't follow the local team like I used to. Since the game has gone pro here, it's lost some of its appeal to me. I do like women's rugby as it tends to be a very fast game. Touch rugby is good, too. Yeah - I get confused with soccer rules, too. But there again, I am easily confused. ;)

its kinda a shame that so many of the people from the lounge have drifted away, but since I did for a while as well, I can surely understand, sometimes life just takes over and free time becomes less and less,
Yep - it is a shame, but RL does take over. Thanks so much for the holiday season wishes. [:D]

    More story coming soon.

It's nice to be able to get to the wrap up at last. LOL

It's just so satifying to see the heros in the "happily ever after"....even though in SW we know it will never last.
Well maybe in profic that's true - but not necessarily so in fanfic . . . ;)

Okely dokely - another post. Note the time gap of two weeks!!! Oh yeah! ;)
    That lightning strike really helped. 8-}

    Chapter 50

After knocking three times, each time increasingly louder, Tahiri folded her arms and frowned at the door. She knew he was in there, but her Jedi senses weren't yet refined enough for her to tell if he was asleep or simply lying low. Had it been Anakin she would have known without even having to focus, but with a relative stranger like Jaytee it was difficult. She had just decided to try knocking one more time, when the door handle squeaked protestingly, and a sliver of semi-darkness appeared between door and jamb framing the boy's shadowy silhouette.

?Brought you something,? she said. ?If you want more, you'd better get a move on. They're going fast.?

She could see him blinking as his eyes adjusted to the light in the corridor and his gaze flicked uncertainly from her face to the cookie she was holding out to him. ?Uh, th-thanks,? he mumbled, and then had to cough to clear his throat. ?Uh, yeah, feeling a bit whacked . . . um, might come out later.?

?The longer you stay in there, the harder it'll get,? she said pointedly.

He stared at the ground for a moment and then looked up, scowling slightly. ?I know. It's just . . .? he scratched the back of his neck. ?I sort of need to see Rongo, 'coz it's, like, up to him if I get to stay. And he isn't here, is he??

?Yes, he is. He came back a couple of hours ago. He's in his room.?

Jaytee stared at her dumbly, and she could smell the faint traces of fear, stringent and sweat-salty. Survival within the hierarchy of the pack was no easier for humans than it was for banthas, except for one virtue that the herd eschewed ? mercy.

?The healers brought both him and Muss back from the hospital. They're going to stay a few days and look after them, so I suggest you tidy yourself up and we'll both go and see Rongo now.?

Jaytee eyed her for a moment. ?Do you boss your boyfriend around like this??

Tahiri graced him with a withering look. ?Of course - that's what makes him so successful.?

The boy's mouth opened and closed, and then, unable to come up with any clever rejoinder, he shrugged. ?Okay,? he sighed. ?Um, do I get that cookie now or do you do bribery as well??

?You'll get the cookie,? she informed him breezily. ?And this isn't bribery, it's motivation.?

?Motivation,? he snorted, and for the first time since the battle ended his eyes lost their hollow expression. ?I'll . . . I won't be a minute.?

Tahiri had just leaned back against the wall opposite the closed door to wait when she heard voices, and she turned to see Vilco and Dajira approaching followed by a man in a slick synthleather jacket. It took her a moment to recognise him as Sangsun Fohm, the Dinarra Holonews reporter from the day before.

?Ah, there she is,? she heard Vilco say.

She pulled herself upright again. ?I hope you don't want to interview us again,? she said to the news man, and felt a certain sense of gloating at his look of unease.

Vilco stopped, and he and Dajira looked at each other and then back at Fohm, obviously confused. ?Sorry, Tahiri,? the little Rodian said haltingly, ?but he asked to see you and Anakin. He didn't say anything about--?

?It's okay,? Fohm interrupted, waving away the interview notion in no uncertain terms. ?I'm not here to do any interviews. I, um, was hoping to talk to that kid who was with you two last night ? the one who fixed the holocam. Is he here??

?Oh.? That was unexpected, Tahiri thought. ?Yes, he's here - in fact that's his room. He'll be out in a minute.?

No sooner had she spoken than the handle squeaked loudly again, and the door opened. Jaytee took a step and then stopped. ?Wasn't expecting a group escort,? he muttered suspiciously.

Tahiri pointed to Fohm. ?This guy wants to talk to you.?

    Jaytee frowned. ?Me? Why??

The reporter paused, as if deciding how to phrase what he was about to say. ?Well,?/>

That looks less like Klingon! LOL The first time I posted it there were all kinds of weird signs and symbols in it - probably to do with the fact I'd written it in Open Office and then pasted it in MS Word and then tried to post it form my Mac. Obviously NOT a good plan.

Sorry about the wait - but I had to get to work to do it as my work PC has Open Office.

I think I know what you meant about the Klingon nonsense. I go to polish an old post, and then a whole lot of junk appeared. I think it's because in the forums, the apostrophes and quotes look like ' and " respectively. But when I type on Microsoft Word, it starts out as those, then it automatically curves them. I do a copy and paste, and the curved ' and " are also transferred to the boards. The boards here read them correctly before, but something happened in the past few years such that the curved ' and " aren't recognized by the boards here, and instead you got a gobbledygook collection of symbols in their places.

Jaytee needs to face Rongo first, then the other Black Knights.

Jaytee eyed her for a moment. "Do you boss your boyfriend around like this?"

Tahiri graced him with a withering look. "Of course - that's what makes him so successful."

[face_laugh] She got Anakin trained already, and I don't think Anakin realizes it yet.

The reporter who unknowingly broadcasted his interview live is back for second helping? To quote Leia, "He's braver than I thought."

I think I see where this is going. Unexpected, but perhaps not too unwelcomed.

The holocam operator resigned? That, I didn't expect. I thought Fohm would be offering Jaytee a job as a personal technician or maybe even a technician for the news company. And realizing the Vong were at your doorstep without even realizing it would probably be enough to shock even the most steadfast of people.

Definitely didn't expect Tahiri to offer career advice to Jaytee. Or was it advice towards making a new life for oneself.

Tahiri couldn?t help thinking that it was probably the first time in years that he?d said anything that could be described as self-deprecating.

Don't you mean that could not be described as self-deprecating.

Looks like Jaytee has taken the first steps towards cleaning up his act.

"I guess people sometimes do things because they need to, even though they don't really know why they need to."

Why do I get the feeling this could be applied to Anakin Skywalker and to Jacen.

Tahiri sighed as he led her back towards the kitchen. "I know this sounds silly - and it's not that I'm not dying for a long sanisteam and a decent bed - but I kind of like this place."

For some reason, I can't help but think if Lando were there and had heard that, he would have asked, "Alone, I hope?!"

Anakin can't keep his mind off his stomach. Can't he?

Another good chapter, and so quick! Jaytee's happy ending just keeps getting better. I must say I didn't expect those couple of lines back in the chapter with the interview to come back like this. I need to pay more attention. Jaytee eyed her for a moment. ?Do you boss your boyfriend around like this??
Tahiri graced him with a withering look. ?Of course - that's what makes him so successful.?

    [face_laugh]

?Okay ? well I'm offering you one. My holocam operator's just resigned ? reckons she can't take the stress. I was pretty impressed with your ingenuity fixing that problem with the device last night. And I reckon you've got a bit of attitude ? which I can deal with, and which you need in this job. So, uh, what do you think??
Tahiri would never have guessed that Jaytee's face was capable of so many different emotions; but it looked like today was gearing up to be full of surprises.
?A job?? the boy stammered after several attempts to make his vocal articulators behave. ?Wow!?

Does this mean he'll be leaving the swoop gang? [face_thinking]

Jaytee nodded. ?Yeah. Rongo runs the Knights like a cooperative. He tenders for contract work.

Ahh. This should work out well then.

He threw her a look of trepidation, looked away and then after some kind of internal struggle, refocused on her face. ?I guess I just want to say s-sorry ? for trying to . . . for what I did to you. It was . . . pretty bad.?
Tahiri's eyes narrowed ? the chlorine glitter tempered but not yet dulled. ?Yeah, it was bad. Really bad. But I'll accept your apology as long as you promise never to do anything like that ever again to any girl.? She couldn't help the shudder, and he couldn't help but notice it.
?Hey ? I understand if you want to take a shot at me,? he said. ?Well, another shot,? he added, remembering the punch she'd landed on his jaw after he'd found her in the aftermath of Tag's Nacht-5 attack.

I think I know where Tahiri should kick him [face_thinking]

?No,? he murmured as they stepped into the relative brightness of the kitchen with its battered cupboards and piles of dishes awaiting attention. ?That doesn't sound silly at all.? He gazed at the empty plates on the table and then at the cookie in Tahiri's hand. ?Um, are you going to eat that??

    Typical Anakin [face_laugh]

Great post, Tahi =D= Looks like Jaytee's getting his life on track. I have a feeling Rongo will forgive him and let him back in the gang. Tahiri is very forgiving [face_thinking]

I loved this post tahi, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy with the redemption of Jaytee and Tahiri's forgiveness of him.:) :)
The strength of the bond between Anakin and Tahiri was very clear also in their exchanges at the end.
I also really liked the idea that they were following the force's plan, it makes it seem even more wrong that Anakin was killed soon afterwards, during this story you've really created a feeling of a bond that was not meant to be broken.
Finally i really liked youre description of Tahiri's eyes when she was talking to Jaytee, beautiful and menacing all at once. [face_laugh]

Yes - it's the first time I've had problems with posts looking weird. Obviously it's to do with my new MS Word programme - smart quotes etc I think need to be turned off if I recall.

She got Anakin trained already, and I don't think Anakin realizes it yet.
Ha ha - no, he's blissfully unaware.

Laughed at the comment about the reporter.

    The holocam operator resigned?
Yeah - she WAS pretty nervous. Obviously not quite cut out for the job.

Definitely didn't expect Tahiri to offer career advice to Jaytee. Or was it advice towards making a new life for oneself.
    The latter. :)

Tahiri couldn?t help thinking that it was probably the first time in years that he?d said anything that could be described as self-deprecating.

Don't you mean that could not be described as self-deprecating.

Nope - the fact he actually said something that implied he was sending himself up is a big step in humility. Normally he'd have come out with something narcissistic. :)

Looks like Jaytee has taken the first steps towards cleaning up his act.
Yep - he has. :) At last.

Why do I get the feeling this could be applied to Anakin Skywalker and to Jacen.
    Good point.

Does this mean he'll be leaving the swoop gang?

Jaytee nodded. ?Yeah. Rongo runs the Knights like a cooperative. He tenders for contract work.

Ahh. This should work out well then.

Yep - hopefully it will work to help them all. :)

I think I know where Tahiri should kick him
Ha ha - I thought you might say that. ;)

I have a feeling Rongo will forgive him and let him back in the gang.
    You may be right.

    Tahiri is very forgiving
She is - but she has other reasons for being so proactive at getting Jaytee to sort his life out. It's important to her to confront him and, in a sense, push him around a bit. She needs to feel she can deal with him and impose a bit of authority over him - because this is what she lost when he attacked her. And his attack brought back the all too raw feelings she still has about her shaping - so it's all tied up with the whole identity/control thing. Hope that makes sense. :) It's part of her recovery process in other words.

    Post more soon!
Pant, pant - you slave driver, you. ;)

I loved this post tahi, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy with the redemption of Jaytee and Tahiri's forgiveness of him.

Thanks for that. That makes me happy, too. :) And I'm also glad that the strength of the bond between A and T came through - it's a major element in this story. And yes - they fulfil the Force simply by being so true to their beliefs and their code.

during this story you've really created a feeling of a bond that was not meant to be broken.
It wasn't meant to be broken - and happily in fanfic it need not be. [face_dancing]

That was a lovely post, Tahi. It's so good to see Tahiri being written as a strong person and making herself face up to the boy who attacked her. She and Anakin just get closer and closer :) what a team. Thank you.

Anakin and his stomach! :D It was good to see Tahiri featuring so strongly here with Anakin quietly supporting her. It's cool to see these little reminders of her Tusken background....I see you keep slipping them in. I tend to forget she was brought up in a pretty cruel tribe, and yet that must have made her tough. Makes her kind of sexy too. ;) I guess Anakin notices that too. :)

I'm enjoying these postfight chapters....it's a chance to see where everyone's at and see how people have been changed by their experiences. Hope Jaytee is going to stay motivated after all the effort Tahiri's put into him, and I can see what you say about her needing to boss hima round a bit. I guess it's part of her healing process.

Thanks. Yes it was very important to Tahiri to do that - and, yes, she is IMO a very strong girl. I base my version of Tahiri on how she was represented in the JJK books as well as on Keyes' Tahiri - and I remember Luke noting in one of the JJK books that he considered her very wise for a child. :)

Glad that the sense of she and Anakin growing ever closer comes through. :)

    Thanks for the review. :)

Ha ha - yes, the lad loves his food.

Hey, thanks for that comment. It captured nicely what I was doing in this chapter. :)

Thanks also for the comment about me slipping in the Tuske background. You're absolutely right - and IMO it's an important part of who Tahiri is. :) I suspect you're right that Anakin finds that side of Tahiri sexy. [face_love]

Yes - everyone has been affected in some way by what has happened. And yes, Tahiri DID need to exert some power over Jaytee. It was part of her healing process. :)

Thanks so much for the feedback. :) Your comments really helped me gauge if what I'm doing is coming through.

Happy to be seen as helping. :) I admit to liking a Tusken style Tahiri. Dangerous women..... ;)
