    I made a Mara Jade costume for myself a few weeks ago:

    [image=http://www.starfirephoenix.net/Images/sw/marajade/mara4.jpg]

    It was a lot of fun to make :) I used Kwik Sew 2722 for the bodysuit, which is a great pattern btw. It took little alteration to get it fitting correctly. Most of the altering work was for the piping down the front. The fabric is a 4 way stretch pvc, with very little shine. I tried to find something with no shine at all, but everything I saw was too thin. This one is a little thicker and stronger. For the cloak I went with purple, because I found a really nice pale fabric, and I liked the look. I hunted high and low for some nice shin pads, but I just couldn't get any nice ones here in oz, so I just wore the knee pads instead, and I am happy with how they looked :) I made a pouch for the back to carry my camera and stuff since I was wearing this at a convention, which just happened to slide around and cover the back fastening :)

    I had such a hard time trying to find a wig that looked nice that I just ended up dyeing my hair. lol

    I have more information and photos on my site: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/marajade.htm

    Don't understand the fabric talk, but what I do know is that your Mara costume looks exactly like the one worn by Shannon Baksa on the Star Wars Insider a few years ago. Good job starfire-phoenix!

    Happy dance happy dance.

    Well my decision to make the Mara costume was made easier by finding a bolt of wonderfully soft 2way stretch matt pvc. It has a slight texture to it and feels a little like skin to touch.

    It's what I used for my Satine black diamonds costume gloves:
    [image=http://costumes.glittersweet.com/moulinrouge/bd2glove3.jpg]

    Having sewn with it before (well the gloves are a little scratchier on the inside) I know this project will actually get done with minimal fuss;) And I'll wind up making matching gloves from the same fabric;)

    I have belt buckles for the shoudler straps and will easily find leather. I'm a littlw worried about the belt buckle as it is a little larger than the ones on the shoudler straps. I will probably just use the same size for a while. The clasp for the cloak may need to be altered from something else.

    I will probably make the shin guards myself, so long as I have access to a heat gun!

    I found some nice looking 2-way stretch PVC, but I just am afraid of lack of mobility in comparison to the 4-way stuff. 4-way is sooo forgiving!

    I use a 2 way stretch and it works GREAT for me - i just made sure that when i cut out the pieces, i had a bit of give to work with. (more on the mara costume, piping, padding, etc can be found at http://www.flagshipeclipse.com/forum/ )

    I knew it was you - I am planning on making myself a new jumpsuit in the nearer future as well.. I will try to take some pics of when i put in the padding and how i manage to get it in. I do not have a teflon foot or feeders for my sewing machine, so the quilting-like aspects are quite snotty to put in, the pvc has a HUGE tendency to stick to the machine as i try to put in the stitching. I have tried the tissue paper method, it works ok, but it sometimes is quite difficult to get your alignment correct.

    Here's a pic of mine, FWIW: [image=http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c228/jadedskies/marabroach.jpg]

    It's made with Magic Sculp over a round button, then painted with dark silver and gold acrylic paint. The camera flash makes it look lighter than it really is here, but you'll get the idea. HTH! :)

    Hello all! I'm fairly new here, and I was directed to this thread by SisterSola. I have found all of your ideas and advice a great help! I was wondring you you guys had any input or suggestions for altreing a pre-made pvc, i think, jumpsuit from LegAvenue, or should I just make a completey differnt one! I especially like Tenyon's pattern and look the best. I want to be the most "screen accurate, for lack of a better word. Any help in figuring out the belt and shoulder harnesses would be great too!

    Hey CrimsonVisions! Nice to see a familiar face! (MySpace!)

    Okay, so I found material, and I'm getting a pattern sent to me by a friend. So I think we're in business. See a group of friends and I are doing a FanFilm about Mara Jade which is why I need to make this costume!

    Any suggestions on how to do the cape clasp?? I was thinking sculpy, but I'll take any suggestions!

    Which of Mara's lightsabers did y'all use?

    I couldn't figure out which would go best with her black outfit I have...a friend of mine is making a Mara lightsaber for me and wanted to know which one I wanted...I didn't realize she had so many!

    I would go with her purple one, the one she has on the Insider Cover. But you could also go for Luke's old blue on as well. Really it's up to you. Right no I'm just using my Mace Windu one bc it's got a purple blade, until I get my Park Sabers Mara Decipher saber.

    IIF you are considering joining the 501st - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to http://www.flagshipeclipse.com AND look at hte mara jade section - and look at the costume requirements - there are specific sabers that go with specific costumes - (and the blue luke saber does not go with the black jumpsuit) - basically - the purple/pink decipher card (insider) saber or the red vader saber work with the black jumpsuit..

    I've contacted my 501st garrison, and they have told me that whatever lightsabre is alright at first, if you are in the process of getting the right sabre. At least that's what my garrison told me. But I for one am going to take a gnader at that sight, to get soem other tips for my costume. I know the pattern I'm making is 501st-proof, though!!

    Thanks for that link! Is the black jumpsuit the only costume allowed? I was hoping to join with my By the Emperor's Hand / Mini Figure costume:

    generally you need a BUNCH of references for a costume (enough to get a FULL image of the costume) - more can be found about THIS on the flagship eclipse boards too - ;)

    [color=006699]Greetings,

    I don't post here often, but I feel it might save some headaches to mention this now: Those interested in costuming as Mara Jade in the 501st Legion should know that--amongst other details--the correct cut of the jump suit is a requirement. Specifically, diagonal strips on the inside thighs and the piping on either side of the centre panel extending the full length of the suit
    [image=http://chucrew.com/Mara/MaraJumpsuit1.jpg]

    Please view this gallery for other image examples.
    I strongly recommend Pam's Jade Creations for an indepth look at the costume and character.

    Be well,
    Thomas[/color]
