Mara's parents were Kinman Doriana and a female Jedi wash-out he was tasked to bring to Palpatine. When he fell in love with her, the two ran off together. That is why Palpatine thought to replace him with Mara. It was only fair after all

 

Is it just too warped of me to suggest that both Trioculus and Triclops were early clones of Palpatine?
