Wonder if its a side effect of not having 2 of the starters start was the slow play early on?
Yep, agreed. Though we've seen some 16s put up good efforts in the past. I believe East Tennessee State put up a good effort as a 16 a year or two ago.
EDIT: bye bye, Florida!
Sam Houston up (very) early.
And, we're back to a one-possession game for Nova and RMU
Edit: And then an amazing Dagger by Reynolds.
Very, very early
16 vs 1
G'Town 50, Princeton 49
Oklahoma 72, ETSU 71
closest its ever been
Doesn't help that RMU is playing 5 on 6 against 'Nova.
Can't get much closer than that But it was over two decades ago.
That's the inspiration for Sports Guy's "Princeton Principle," the level of disappointment when the underdog you're rooting for takes a lead and builds you up before falling to a superior opponent.
Bobby Mo back within one, and I'm screaming like I'm watching Lebron again! Great steal!
Freaking mmod stalled on that steal 3 times between the steal and the basket. This is just cruel.
Thank God TV here switched to the Bobby Mo game. I got Baylor-Sam Houston on MMOD right now.
Good lord what a 3 that was.
No matter who wins, this might be the best first-round game EVER. What a three by Bobby Mo there to bring it back to one.
Not to mention, them doing that once means that right now, you KNOW they have the ability to tie this sucker up again. Now, if they can actually manage it, that'll be a different question.
what a mistake by the Novaa player to not take the layup
And Villanova escapes.
I'm going to make millions traveling to college campuses and teaching coaches how to draw up plays at the end of games. Neither Florida nor RMU can do so. Pathetic end of game offensive set.
Helluva game, though. Wow, that was fun to watch.
I agree Inty. I can't tell you how many times this year I saw a team's play be "launch a 3" no matter the score or just let some PG do whatever.
This isn't coaching-related, but shouldn't Harangody have tipped the ball back out instead of hitting a worthless layup?
And 3 for 3 now thanks to Villanova. Woot.
But him hitting a buzzer-beating two-pointer with his team down three is a PERFECT way for him to end his career.
Looks like Murray State will likely take a small lead into half time.
North Texas-Kansas State is about to tip.
The Pick: K-State
Rooting for: K-State (unless North Texas makes a run ... then you always cheer for the 15-2 upset)
Best case: A blowout. My heart can't take another game like the Bobby Mo game. At least not right away.
So, 3 games, 3 OT periods so far. Somehow I don't think this pattern will continue
EDIT: so, right now we have:
13 Murray State leading 4 Vandy at the half
14 Sam Houston State tied with 3 Baylor late in the first half
15 North Texas leading 2 Kansas State (very early)
..this on the heels of that first bunch of three games. Wow.
Oh, and St. Mary's-Richmond will be starting pretty soon. Go Spiders!
I'm pleased to see that Duke's stiffest competition in their bracket so far seem to be struggling in the first round.
