ST Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in Episode VII

I think he was there for a good few weeks (3/ 4 at least?).

 

There was a note that he was at Carrie's party, that he wasn't photographed leaving along with several other folks that didn't get photographed. It's in a couple of the stories

The reason Mark wasn't in England much with the others is because he filmed all of his scenes before he grew the beard. Remember, the beard is a decoy! He had to fit his clean shaven face into that Grave Robber mask.

 

As others have pointed out I'm sure the inconsistency is him just letting it grow out between his filming blocks to allow makeup and hair to do the rest or we're just getting raggedy old hermit first and then a pruned Jedi Master later on in the film.

We've had like what, 4 photos of him since filming began? In the same time if you took 4 pics of me you'd probably end up with a similar result, some days I'm smelly old tramp, others a well groomed dandy, I'm sure we're reading far too much into his beard

There is a chance that the Skellig Michael shoot was Mark's last shoot.

You're exactly right. Mark says it's unkempt because he hasn't seen the film's hair stylist for a while. The variance in length isn't a plot point, it's just his absence from filming.

BTW, in case no one has heard, Mark IS returning for Episode 8...

...at least I thought he was...wasn't there a news story about that a while ago???

 

I'm shocked his beard length is because the hair and make up team hasn't been styling it. Who could have possibly thought?

 

Considering the filming is due to wrap in 2 weeks, I guess he is saving his beard for Episode VIII or pick-ups then.

Funny, considering in his interview at SWW, he kept saying he couldn't get used to the 'facial fur'. I would have thought he'd shave it off the first chance he got.

Well, that goes without saying. A similar thing happened to me after Movember one year.

 

So he probably has the same hairstyle during the whole movie. I guess, then, that his style is the one that we saw a few weeks back, with the beard and the hair shrter than they are now, but long enough.

 

He may be done filming, he may not be. But I don't think it says anything about the size of his part. Remember, everything had to be reshuffled when Harrison Ford injured himself. So if Harrison and Carrie are still in England filming, it doesn't mean their parts are bigger. They're just "making up for lost time" at this point. And who knows, the story may have an ESB kind of dynamic. Harrison and Carrie are paired up for a part of the story, while Mark is filming separate from them for a different a part of the story. *shrug* I see no reason to worry. Besides, he might not even be finished at all. These guys seem to enjoy flying back and forth a lot.
