ST Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) In Episode IX

He literally said there is nothing in there that she does not need because there is nothing in there.

 

He said that there’s nothing in there that Rey doesn’t already have.

Rey has the books. She has the Jedi knowledge and wisdom contained within. Yoda knows this. Because he knows this, when he speaks to Luke of Rey’s need he is not referring to Luke needing to teach Rey.

I’m not arguing what the literal quote is. I’m pointing out what Yoda is saying and what he means.

 

I dunno... he also says that Luke has not yet passed on what he knows. If the books provided all the answers, why would he remind Luyke of that? And why would he say, "Lose Rey, we must not." ? It seems clear to me he intends for them to play an active role in guiding her and not just goin', "yeah, let's chillax. She has the books."

 

Because, I think, that may not be what Yoda meant by “pass on what you have learned.”

I think he was talking about the Jedi stuff. Yoda wants the Jedi to continue.

Okay anyway back to talking about Luke Appearing in 9.

You really do not think he will appear?

 

yep, I see this as something to be expected.

 

I suppose anything is possible, but I am almost certain Force Ghost Luke will be in Ep. 9. I cannot see how he could not be.

 

Especially the way he died.

 

He's not dead, people! He's doing recon from the Force!

 

I think it's possible but I don't think he will play a big role like he did in TLJ. They will use the time they would use to Leia to end the arcs of the new heroes (Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose etc). Mark joked "maybe we'll see more about Luke in a book" but Kathleen Kennedy stopped him

 

Stopped him after what?

 

Is that just your opinion or is that based on something TPTB have said? I have never heard anything like that before. If anything, Leia being unable to be in Ep. 9 actually makes it even more likely Luke will be in Ep. 9.

Why would TPTB need to use the time originally dedicated to Leia for the new characters anyway? Why not use some of it for Luke.

 

During what he was saying, she interrupted him and KK was like "I think we need to stop here lmao Mark is so funny, Luke will be so significant in this movie [The Last Jedi]" then Mark replied something like "Well, that's good to hear!"

Was this before TLJ release? I can see him saying that because, well, he knew Luke died and might not be around in IX, hence the book being a possibility to see Luke again. KK stopped him because she didn't want others to know his fate in TLJ.

I think he'll be back (as Carrie is gone), but I'm not sure what sure what more has to be said in regard to his character at the moment.

 

Something “Lose Rey, we must not” something something “I can’t be what she needs me to be” something something. Probably.

ie, unfinished biz with Rey. They did leave on kinda awful terms.

 

They did just fight after all.

 

I disliked their relationship in TLJ so much that I just don't want to see it opened again.
He left the galaxy becoming the legend they needed him to be. He fulfilled his purpose and passed peacefully. Yoda told him that Rey has everything she needs. I just don't see a reason to bring him back..

 

Yes. What the galaxy needed him to be. But not what Rey needs him to be. The movie draws a distinction between said needs.

And yeah...the Luke/Rey relationship was off-putting, distant, boring, and WTF.
