Perhaps the First Order knows that Luke is the offspring of Anakin/Vader? And through Kylo they are perpetuating that fact that like father like son to lure him out from his hiding to destroy him? Just a possibility..

I mean, isn't all of that also accomplished by just revealing that he's Vader's grandson?

How many times have you watched a film and thought that's ridiculous? Hope I don't do that during this new trilogy but you can't write it off before you've seen the films.

And how do they do that? You can't prove Luke had a child and I'm pretty certain Leia's identity as a Skywalker is still unknown. And Luke would surely know both were BS. As in wether he or Leia had had a child and the history that lead to them being Kylo. So no, that wouldn't be a good enough ruse to lure Luke out. Proclaiming to be Luke and having proof he was Anakin/Vader's son is far more convincing.

Perhaps Luke is the boogie man.

Could be? Perhaps the revelation of his identity has forced him into hiding..

I think its more likely if there's any truth in the rumour that Kylo Ren has assumed Luke's identity so successfully due to Luke being missing for a decade or more, the big question is like what others have said, why has Luke, Leia or Han done nothing about it.

Surely Luke would feel it through the Force as easily as he should feel Han getting killed, after all he felt Han being tortured when he was only a novice. Leia surely would've heard of someone calling themselves Luke Skywalker and committing atrocities? The rumour opens up too many questions that can't be answered at this time but it doesn't mean its a certainty to be 100% fake.

It just makes more sense to me if Kylo pretends to be Vader, not Luke.
But even then, my preferred scenario is that Kylo pretends to be some Dark Side prophet of Darth Vader.

Reminds me of the Chuck Norris/Kyle Katarn-esque badassery that Luke Skywalker actually did throughout the movies and (now defunct) EU. For example...

The two most powerful and evil men in the history of the galaxy had the same nightmare: Luke Skywalker is coming to get me [face_skull]

So Luke is still in one scene?

I'm so lonesome I could cry.

I mean really, the climatic lightsaber battle is between a Sith pretender and two others who have never used the Force?

I really, REALLY hope we are in for something better than this.

Well to give people some hope, doesn't the flashback contain a battle? Who knows...maybe Luke is in the battle and that is where we get our little dosage of Luke action? IDK....my money is on them saving Luke action to episode 8

My money is on Luke saving Rey and Finn from being killed by Kylo.

I mean come on, what else would persuade Rey to become his apprentice more than personally witnessing Luke hand it to Kylo in a sabre duel and forcing him to flee with his tail between his legs? And saving her life into the bargain aswell! Silly crap about handing him the sabre at the very end? For crying out loud get a grip ;)

I actually think her doing it herself is more powerful, story wise.

Yeah, terrific for Kylo's perceived severity and weight as a villain aswell. . Beaten by an untrained force sensitive. Does exponential gravitas for him as an evil, big bad character for the rest of the trilogy. Think about it...

yeah I can't see Rey or Finn beating Ren in a 1 vs 1 duel this early in the films, it will lessen the bad guy and trivialize him.

it's like newbie Luke fighting Vader in IV and winning or drawing with him.
the most logical thing is this for the new kids

Well, the title is "The Force Awakens", so maybe noobs are suddenly more powerful than they normally would be, meaning a better contest.

Still hope there is a secret Luke fight scene though.

it still makes no sense that the newbies can do a draw to the big bad guy of this trilogy. It is just implausible. [face_worried]

luke did it lol. granted vader didn't want to kill him.

anyway it's not at all unbelievable I think people are too caught up on kylo's 'power level' or w/e.
