Yeah this was Suppose to be the last Hurrah when they got the most screen time. I suppose Luke could be like Leia giving orders from behind a desk.

I still think the entire ST will be Luke's, and most likely Leia's, last hurrah. Han will only be getting this one film it looks like. And with Han gone what happens to poor old Chewie?[face_dunno]

U see Leia has got the ideal job, she literally has a job that prevents her from going into the field and stealing the thunder from the old guard.

Sounds like he'll end up as Rey's sidekick.

Could be. I have a dark suspicion that Chewbacca will die with Han or at some other point in the ST. I'm not sure the old Wook will make it.

I just hope that Chewie becomes the pilot and captain of the Falcon. He has put in the time.

Damn right! The old boy's earned it. Rey should be HIS co-pilot.

That's what I feel....the excuse of Luke having a real role in VIII seems pretty weak to me. I mean, he could have more of a role in it because he couldn't have much less of a role than he does in TFA, unless he's killed off between movies or just not used.

its weird Luke gets the Bespin saber at some point and puts his future coordinates in them and then that same saber lands on a planet that just happens to have his niece/old student of his and the villains want a saber that's not Luke's current one, which makes you wonder why would they be chasing it???

Yup no matter what, I think the idea is a convoluted mess.

Kinda wished Chewie would go down with Han in the Falcon. Its the loyal companion protecting and staying alongside. Still gotta feeling Han's death is gonna end up being flat. On paper it just seems flat. Captain should go down with his ship. Imagine the impact of losing both Han and Chewie and the Falcon. I think that would be better than Han just being cut down by a lightsaber. But thats just me.

And regarding this whole Anakin's/Luke/Bespin lightsaber thing - I also find it a major leap of faith that it can be found again. I think its gone and should stay gone. If Luke put coordinates in any lightsaber, it should be the green one he had in ROTJ and then sent it off into space or whatever so it could be found.

And yes - I still think the whole lightsaber floating through space to get to a new "chosen one" is bad storytelling. I get the whole "destiny thing" and a "Maguffin ala the death star plans" - but its still a big leap of faith.

Yup I find the trying to make the jedi and lightsaber a mysterious again very convuluted and weak.
That ship has sailed for the audience anyways.
The mystery is how the new jedi will be like, and looks like we won't be seeing that in this movie, we don't even really see Luke.

Thematically, you're probably right. But, Disney has toys to sell. That wasn't, realistically, going to happen with the Falcon. By extension, that also applies to Chewie: you just need a guy who can work in the suit. Even if Peter Mayhew is starting to get too old for the part.

I still don't know how I'll feel about a lightsaber floating through space as the opening to the film but I do like the idea of it being Rey's call to adventure. Very Excalibur-like obviously and I think that part of it at least will be very interesting.
