For the same reason he does not like beard. The guy has no idea how wonderfully he can rock almost any luke.

 

So? If Disney has toys to sell, you bring a new alien sidekick in for VIII, and watch the sales soar.

Also, is there data confirming that a character dying in a film is correlated with the toy sales of that character? Intuitively, it makes no sense to me that one wouldn't purchase the toy of a character that died a heroic death. I would guess the opposite, but I just don't know.

Nice interview. Mark just comes across as so humble. In so many interviews about shows he appears in, he always seems to deflect all the praise onto his fellow cast members. Sounds like such a cool guy.

 

OF course he is only did 3 days of actual work afte rall.

Peter's knees have pretty much had it despite surgery. Any reprise of the role by Peter and I think he'll be pretty static on screen. FTR they have used a stand-in before in ESB when Peter was crook, but all the footage ended up on the cutting room floor because the replacement actor couldn't mimic Peter's body language. I just can't see them convincingly replacing Peter with a stand-in tbh...

I agree that this trilogy of movies will introduce a whole range of iconic new characters that the main toy market (kids) will be most interested in. Us old fogeys can reminisce about the older cast all we like, but the franchise is moving forward all the time. TFA is the bridge between the old and the new; personally I embrace the change and remain as excited as ever for the movie.

Ha. Though of course, we have no idea what the TFA script says. We only have descriptions of what was shot. So barring the addition of digital Luke to certain scenes, you can keep expecting him to turn up at the very end.

^ This. Besides, Hamill is playing the Trickster in that show so that post does not surprise me, misinformation abounds with that character. And if he really did not know, then reshoots and that.

Insofar as Star Wars, you know he's not going to say anything.

A character doesn't even need to die a heroic death to sale toys it the character is well liked. Boba died looking like a fool and tons of his action figures still sale to this day.
