I think we'll learn that the crystal Luke is wearing is a tiny prison that holds the man with the black hood from Rogue One.

 

It could be an ancient crystal that Luke uses to help mask his presence, it could be a callback to Splinter of the Mind's Eye, it could be the 1st lightsaber crystal, it could be anything. Just because it is red doesn't mean that Luke miraculously found his father's crystal after the DSII blew up.

 

There is nothing inside but Lukes diabetes pills

 

But if you look closer at the pills you'll see that the black hooded man from Rogue One is in there...and he's Rey's father!

 

So he is a midichlorian called Darth Diabetes. Midichlorian Rey Diabetes confirmed I guess.

 

Bingo! But here's the thing, he's not just any midichlorian, his the FIRST midichlorian!

 

Luke's Ahch-To diet has reversed his diabetes, all that vegetables, herbs and lean white Porg meat.

 

Changing gears away from diabetes for a second I'm starting to think that Luke should have a pet cat with him on Ahch-To. It just seems like it would be appropriate for a cat to be prancing around his hut in the background while he's talking to Rey. I only hope Rey isn't allergic!

 

I think he's relying more on turtle stew

 

Yep, only so much snappy tortoise one can put up with.

I like this idea. It turns the stereotype of the "crazy cat lady" on its head, as we learn that Luke has become a "crazy cat man." Of course, that means he has more than one cat. I want to see his hut overrun with cats. Remember the scene from the trailer when Rey is pointing at some kind of document? I want to see a cat jump up on that document a moment later and get in her way.

(wow, I think we're officially out of things to discuss, aren't we?)

 

Oh my god not only do I want to see Luke owning a million cats but I want them all named after the Jedi students that died. Maybe one of the cats will give birth in TLJ and he'll name one of the cats Han?

Did he actually state that we’ll find out some of what happened to Luke after RotJ aside from Kylo’s betrayal? Or am I misunderstanding?

 

This interview is a serious hype-generator for me. Can't wait to see what Rian has done with Luke. No matter what, it's likely to be far more interesting than what the EU gave us.

Also according to Mark, it looks like TLJ will tell us quite a bit more about what Luke was up to between ROTJ and TFA.

 

I'd prefer that rather than being, um forced, to find this out through other official media.

 

I understand wanting something different, I just hope its realistic. I mean its believable that Luke would be different given what hes been through, however I just hope at the heart of it he's still the same Luke.

 

He literally said the Kylo's betrayl and fall of the new Academy is just a fraction of what happened to Luke in between Ep6 and Ep7. Now he cant say anything about it but we will learn the new details about what happened during all those years. He didnt clarify will there be just a details about Kylo's betrayal or there will be something else we dont know about yet.
My personal guess is that there will be more on Luke than just Kylo's betrayal and Fall of the Academy. Mark wouldnt throw the words saying "its just a fraction of what happened to Luke during those years" if there was nothing important besides those events. He also refused to tell more about what happened to Luke during those years so i guess that will be adressed in the movie or at least books/comic books/tv show.

 

I don't doubt that he'll rediscover his core self by the end.

 

let's hope so.
