Man... I have an actual, fell on anxiety dream inducing phobia of things touching my belly button. I probably won’t sleep tonight now. Really. (Not blaming you, obviously, how would you know? But man, that image has messed with me)

 

Oh man I was just trying to have a laugh, not cause nightmares for others. I'm sorry!

 

This figure is missing his rain cape.....what gives

 

He is not the only one. CoW and I are also rigid about Luke . But you are very right. It would be best if we did not go into this film with such rigidity but we know who luke really is and I not sure Disney does but I’m getting more encouraged based on the legends Luke book and battlefront scenes

You have your idea of the Luke you prefer. That does not mean you know who Luke really is over anyone else here or - more relevantly - the storytellers who get to decide who he is now. Which, of course does not mean you and or anyone else has to like any depiction of Luke.

 

I just wonder how you can know that you will like the depiction? You either know it or you like any direction, which would make you critical blind in a way?

 

Quick question: Luke's "this isn't going to go the way you think" speech is the latest moment of the film we have with him, right? There's nothing that happens afterward that we've yet seen?

 

Unless he blows up the hut after that, I would say yes.

 

Unless the Falcon scene is afterwards.

 

Hmm. So that's like 50%-60% of the film during which we have no clue what he's doing.

And with Leia now confirmed to be at least temporarily replaced by Holdo for a portion of the film, I wonder (hope?) that these two have a reunion that's been totally hidden from us, while all the young people are off trying to kill each other.

 

True, though I get the feeling that comes earlier. But I really have nothing to base that on.

My guess is: garbage bag Luke w/hood up happens while he sneaks to the Falcon for nostalgia and peeps Rey training alone with the rock. Hood down Luke is "resist it Rey," rain training, his speech, the duel with Kylo, then the hut explosion.

 

That sounds about right.

 

Because some of us reserve the judgement of his characterization until we see the film; everything we have heard to this point seems that Luke Skywalker will have an amazing characterization in TLJ. But go ahead jump off the cliff ~ even Mark likes how his character is portrayed.

 

you mean after he first disagreed about everything Rian wrote about his character? But yes, I may indeed come to a late appreciation of this as well, chances are there, but I'm not part of the troope who likes every approach....

 

Go ahead, continue to not like the characterization then, all some of us are saying is it'd be a lot more fun and enjoyable if you had a wait and see approach. But what works for you is fine, I love what I'm hearing.

Gosh, if what you're speculating is true, you got Rey doing saber exercises in the early AM. Meanwhile, Luke has his reunion moment with Chewie and R2. He then goes alone on the Falcon. Perhaps has a nostalgic moment. Cue Yoda "friends long gone..." luke goes over to see Rey. He's curious. He walks down and talks to her about the force. She's all i can do the mind trick. The force help me beat Kylo. Luke tells her you don't the force. Tells her to close her eyes, reach out...etc.

I can't wait for this movie!!

 

I think that's right after it explodes.

Luke looks more like Peter Sarsgaard here, than he does Mark.

 

What intrigues me about Luke's gear in this one is his need for a compass and a rucksack with travelling equipment. They are on an island, which isn't very big. Does this mean he and Rey are going on a trip somewhere, to other parts of Ach-To maybe? Are we going to see Lord of the Rings type aerial shots of them trekking over mountains and across plains etc?

Where are they going? And why don't they just get Chewie to fly them?
