Did we ever get confirmation if Hamill was in Croatia for filming purposes? Or is he basically going to be stuck in Ahch-To the entire film? Do we know?

What if that is the beginning of the New Jedi? What exactly did you expect from Luke?

I'm pretty sure he wasnt in Dubrovnik. That's a Finn side adventure anyway.

What happens to Luke, eh? The big question.

Whatever happens, whether he lives or dies or temporarily fails, in the end he will be a Hero.
He will end his story proudly.
I'm confident that They won't ruin him. That's sort of my one demand upon these movies. All else is flexible.

Hamill will handle it as gracefully as he can. If he's displeased, he'll be as professional on set as he was with Rian and J.J.. He's human and so is everyone here. Sometimes, stretching out with your feelings is a good thing. ;)

I just want to jump in with a comment. In the past year, I spent countless hours analyzing and re-analyzing JJ's quotes, using everything I learned from Statement Analysis to get a read on how JJ really thinks and feels about the work he did on Star Wars.

And based on my analysis, one thing that came through loud and clear is that JJ is extremely sensitive to criticism. Sure, he's in a business where he has to deal with intense criticism all the time, but trust me, he absolutely hates it. For example, I'm convinced one reason JJ pushed so hard to hire a black actor in a leading role is because he was still smarting from criticism that he whitewashed Khan when he hired Benedict Cumberbatch.

If I'm right about this, JJ will go out of his way in the next movie to refute the main criticisms that were thrown at him after TFA. Since he was blasted so heavily for copying ANH, I think he'll go out of his way to try and be original with the new story. How successful JJ can be writing an original story is a matter for different debate.

But to bring this back to the topic at hand – Luke – because JJ was so criticized for his treatment of Luke's character in TFA, I think he will go out of his way to write something good for Luke in the final movie. That is, assuming Luke survives TLJ, which is not a guarantee yet.

Wait, I'm confused. Who told us to wait for Ep. IX to see Luke wield his saber? I would really like to know if I missed something. I'm guessing I did not though.

At the risk of seeming repetitive, I for one am pretty certain that we will see Luke with his ROTJ saber in TLJ and unless I did miss something, I've seen nothing to make me think otherwise.

For me it boils down to the fact that I trust KK to respect Luke's legacy and I see her, not JJ, as the ultimate authority.

B99 - what a lovely video. Thanks for posting. He's so great.

Leias_Left_Bun - interesting thoughts. If that is true, Abrams is in the wrong business, rejection and criticism are a big part of being in the industry. That he is attempting to get on the dewback and ride again, more power to him. I'd like to think he actually gives a hoot about the actors he hired and the characters he helped shape now and do something unique that feels like the universe he's been asked to reboot. We'll see if that happens.

Whatever may be in store for Luke, Finn, Poe, Rey and Kylo I just would like J.J. to do right by them and make it feel like Star Wars. Until such time, I will try not to worry about Luke and the gang too much. As you say, VIII is not even out yet.

um, as far as i know no one knows if luke will use the green lightsaber in TLJ or not.

luke has an arc in this trilogy and it could be as simple as he won't join in the fight until he has some revelation or overcomes something, and when he gets back in the fight he may... ... ... use a lightsaber

I think that it comes down to, do you like what they seem to be doing with his character. If not, then you're not exactly going to be optimistic about what they might do with him going forward, because it's built on a flimsy foundation for you.

If you like this direction, then it'd be the reverse.

Hm. So, based off that GQ video, might Luke appear on Canto Bight? He mentions "the casino planet" and the large amounts of puppeteers on the set. He mentions he was amazed when he walked on set. Now, does that mean he was actually on set filming, or visiting? I think most agree that Hamill wasn't present in Croatia for filming, but, that doesn't necessarily rule him out of Canto Bight, as many of its scenes were most likely shot in a studio. Perplexing.

Luke hasn't talked in a very long time, so his voice will keep cracking and going up and down in octave for the first half of the film.

Not really. We know that they wiped out his entire Jedi Order offscreen without us getting to actually see any of it. We know that he's apparently bitter and angry and doesn't respond well to Rey at first. And we know that both Mark and Daisy were surprised/not sure about where Rian is taking their characters at first, etc.

So we know enough that people can make up their minds whether they like what they've done to Luke's character or not. People don't have to "wait and see where it goes" if you don't even like where it begins, and the reverse is true as well.

we know that luke is unexpected. we don't know in what way he is unexpected. and we don't know why. and we don't know what course he'll take from beginning to end. i see a lot of unknowns. but by all means assume your worst case luke scenario is the case!

funny, I was the only one saying that I might have seen Mark once in Crotia, but was convinced by others it was not him. Now he may have been there indeed? o_O But of course he could have just been visiting, or visiting studio filmset. ;)

Yeah, bringing JJ in for CT is the worst possible news for Luke. CT wanted Luke and Leia to have their biggest ST roles in his film, KK disagreed with him on the script, and then replaces him with JJ, the person who kept Luke on the sidelines so Rey wouldn't have any shine taken away from her. I think it is pretty obvious how this is going to go.

Not absurd at all, just reaching his full potential. Lucas said Anakin could be twice as powerful as Palpatine and that Luke had that same potential. I would say twice as powerful as Palpatine roughly equals Yoda and Palpatine combined. Again, not a cartoon or absurd character, just the real Luke Skywalker as envisioned by Lucas, not this JJ/LK/KK/RJ fanfic version.

Nope. I've waited since 1983 to see the ST trilogy Luke played by Mark Hamill kicking ass. Recast series, cartoon, novels, comics, etc. don't matter.

EDIT: I know it was just for the GQ photoshoot, but Mark in the white tux and cape looks like he would fit right in on Canto Bight. I could see him strolling through the casino. Aghhh what could (and should) have been with this ST.
