I guess I'm just more interested in whether it has an engrossing, original story rather than one million gimmicky cover variants for the first issue.

I'm actually kind of surprised how both Marvel and comic book stores seem to pretend that the last 20 years of Star Wars comic books didn't happen. If this was the first Star Wars comic since marvel's original run then I would get the hype but this is essentially gonna be rehash of what we had before.

Jaxxon is back into canon by the end of the first arc. At least before the release of TFA.

I don't think it's a surprise why Marvel at least is trying to pretend that there was a vast Star Wars comic wasteland since they let the license go. I'm assuming there's been some behind the scenes pressure on the new comics' creative staff, too. If all these people are as big Star Wars fans as they say, and they're in the comics industry, and they all seem to claim in interviews to have never read any Dark Horse stuff while also being intimately familiar with the original Marvel run (because obviously that was what anyone looking up Star Wars comics would naturally have gone to in the past twenty years) something is up.

There was an interview with either Aaron or Cassaday where they actually said they were considering putting Jaxxon in the first issue.

Which is another thing that kind of gets to me, pre-2014 Jaxxon to the degree that anyone in "the public" knew him was that he was an example of how bad the Star Wars spinoff stuff could get. And then Marvel gets the license back and of course now he's a funny/retro/nostalgic/ironic thing that everyone knows about from reading his entry on Wookieepedia and trots him out about how much they know about Marvel and how amazing it would be to link him back from those amazing, classic, unparalleled early Marvel issues. Because it's not like there's anything of note in Star Wars comics between 1986 and 2014 that would be worth asking if they'll return, too.

It's a Green Rabbit that shoots lazers, an inherently kitschy concept any way you slice it but have him blow stuff up while hurling snark and you have an SW-verse Rocket Racoon. That originated from Marvel's run, so it makes the most sense to bring him back outta anything. And people love Rocket Racoon, dammit!

    As in Bucky O'Hare?

Huh... guess you learn something new every day... by the way isn't calling Jar Jar an abomination giving that character a bit too much credit?

Marvel's ruthless commercialism shouldn't surprise anyone but I'm quite a bit more sympathetic to the shops.

In just under 3 weeks, DHC can no longer sell SW material. The result of that is they'll be aiming to clear their stocks as there's no point having stuff they can't sell. What is then bought by booksellers and shops is it and once it's gone, it's gone. There's no reason for shops to point customers to material they may not be able to obtain.

That and the monthly structure of the Direct Market is all about looking forward not back, stuff December, the most recent solicits are for March 2015!

Marvel might publish unproduced scripts from the Clone Wars into a comic series and at the end, republish it in an omnibus with Son of Dathomir.
I could see it, STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS: THE FINAL DAYS and a sticker on the cover saying EXCLUSIVE REPRINT OF CANON COMIC: DARTH MAUL: SON OF DATHOMIR INCLUDED IN OMNIBUS!

The SW hype is growing and Marvel have been pushing the release pretty hard. I can see people who haven't touched comics before or at least for a while picking up a copy.

Yeah I'm sure the first few issues will sell pretty good, but like most hyped Marvel titles I'm sure it will die down in sales. Marvel loves having #1's left and right. Most people buying these issues are going to see the first issue/issues as a collectible and nothing more I think (IF it even is one), based on the nature of many Star Wars fans into collecting.

Perhaps, then they see the $4.99 price tag and that repels them quick!

Honestly, if he weren't green, I wouldn't have a problem with Jaxxon. He's very campy as it is, but if you just "modernized" him a bit, maybe gave him black or gray fur, then I think he'd be the right kind of campy to fit in with Star Wars. Maybe shorten his ears a bit, too, to make him less Bugs Bunny-esque, but other than that, yeah. I'd be okay with Jaxxon appearing.

Isn't that already included in next month's Star Wars: The Early Marvel Years Omnibus vol.1?

Interesting, particularly that they're issuing it as an OGN. So far those have been oversized hardbacks at the $24.99 / £18.99 price point.

Image in the CBR article also shows up the recolouring to the full too:

That description sounds like Star Woods to me. I hope they don't turn Vader into an ineffectual villain again.
