General Dodanna is seemingly a total buzzkill





(art is very much in Terry Dodoson style, the characters are cartoony looking but they emote well while the "tech" and landscape looks very "real". Check out his work on Mark Millar's Spider-Man, that was a treat)

 

Those are some weird faces.

 

Han looks like he's smirking at Chewie's moan of distress for not receiving a medal.

Edit: In fact, it sort of looks like they all are. They looked deadpan in ANH, but clearly this comic is telling a different story.

 

I'm actually really looking forward to this series after seeing these pages, I dunno, but I think this is the first time we've seen what happen's directly after the end of a New Hope and that has me kind of giddy for some reason.

 

I agree with those who are criticizing the artwork. It looks sophomoric. But I'm looking forward to the comic. Many have speculated on how Leia dealt with the destruction of her planet; I've seen it covered in fanfic, but nothing in the profic.

 

I actually really like the art, but I can see why some (or most?) people doesn't. In my opinion it doesn't have to look "real", because it's art, comics, not TV.

 

Dodson's style is cartoony and dynamic. Don't expect it to suddenly change a few pages in, that's how it's gonna look.

 

It's...a little weird for me, considering that when I heard the name Terry Dodson I immediately thought of this:





...y'know. Not that this is necessarily spectacular art either (some might find the colors flat here too, as they do with the preview pages of the new main SW comic), but it's quite different and more realistic. People change, I guess?

 

Remember that Dodson's work on that adaptation is now over a decade ago! Artists do indeed change their style over time.

A case is point is Steve Epting:

1996: X-Men: Age of Apocalypse:



2006: Captain America

 

I so don´t miss 90es comics.

 

A large part of why I used Epting as the example is because the shift is so marked, I couldn't believe how great his Cap work was as the last I'd seen of him was his 90s X-Men / Avengers work.

Nope. She only developed mutant powers in that timeline.

I thought it was some other character on the covers.

I can identify R2 though, so points for that.
