    If you've been reading any Marvel Comics in the last 4 months or so you may have seen one of these mysterious ads, often only with "2009" as the only clue.

    [image=http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a105/darthcolin/Marvel-1.jpg] [image=http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a105/darthcolin/Marvel-2.jpg] [image=http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a105/darthcolin/Marvel-3.jpg] [image=http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a105/darthcolin/Marvel-4.jpg]

    Today, IGN announced that Marvel is launching a new imprint called Marvel Noir.

    Official word from Marvel:
    "The Great Depression has ended, and a mysterious world has emerged. The mob, the power-hungry, and the corrupted all rule and hope seems long gone. This world desperately cries out for heroes, and they get them; recognizable but in ways you never expected! These are people who must make a stand and find the hero ? or the villain ? in each of them. Who will rise and who will fall? Murder, mystery, and mayhem surround this hard hitting, razor-edged world. Welcome to world of Marvel Noir."

    X-Men Noir and Spider-Man Noir will be launching 4 issue mini's in December with Daredevil Noir and Wolverine Noir coming in 2009.

    The whole idea seems really cool to me. The early issues of the current X-Factor show that superheroes and noir can mix well. I'm really looking forward to this.

    Not interested. Maybe if they get great writers I'll check them out, but if it's going for a Frank Miller pastiche as it looks like they are I just don't care for it.

    The creative teams are:

    X-Men: Van Lente and Calero

    Spider-Man: Hine and Di Giandomenico

    Daredevil: Alexander Irvine and Tomm Coker

    Wolverine: Stuart Moore and CP Smith

    More interested now.

    I am intrigued by the Spider-Man teaser (of course I am) if for no other reason than he is holding a gun.

    Which would be all kinds of appropriate, I am just intrigued by the story behind him holding a gun.

    Is that Spider-Man? I assumed it was Cyclops.

    It does seem like this whole idea is VERY Frank Miller influenced. I think it has a lot of potential if done right. And looking at some of the creative teams it looks like that could be pulled off. Especially the Spider-Man team. Hine has done some awesome work lately. Son of M had some weak points but I loved District X and Silent War.

    Same here -- the red-tinted glasses are pretty classic Cyke.

    This looks like it has potential to be very cool.
