How so when they are gaining more subs than expected?

Netflix stock shot up more than 13% Thursday, hitting an all-time high of $541.43 per share in early trading, after the No. 1 subscription-video player packed on about 860,000 more streaming customers than expected in the first quarter of 2015.
The company added 4.9 million streaming subs worldwide in the period, including 2.28 million in the U.S.

more than expected, vs. enough to sustain the growth in content expenses. Shareholders agree with you, but it wouldn't be the first time that they failed to understand the business models of the online companies they were throwing money at.

Well, I'm sure at least one person at Netflix understands business models, and they may even have one developed.

It took a lot of restraint on my part not to bing watch more than 2-3 episodes a day. I haven't been this excited about the superhero TV show since Heroes Season 1. I loved that, despite tie-ins with other stories it's self-contained and works well for those of us unfamiliar with the comics (probably the majority of the international audience). Black Sky didn't bother me much since I assumed it's a setup for some later plotline in the upcoming shows (Defenders?) or maybe potential Season 2 if Netflix renegotiates the deal (I hope they'll continue, I'd really love to see this version of Elektra!).

    A few things:

I was ok with the final suit but I definitely preferred the black ninja outfit. Not only was it more menacing but it showcased Charlie's abs rather nicely (I'm allowed to be shallow on occasion, right?)

The casting was solid overall. The Mighty Duck guy was probably the weakest link but even he got better, especially in the Nelson vs. Murdock episode. Charlie was great as both a likable, somewhat dorky young lawyer and a street-fighter with the anger management issues. Juxtaposition of his and Fisk's paths was nicely done - both of them are capable of rage, but, as Dumbledore would say, it's the choices that we make that matter.

The fights were well done and probably the best mainstream quasi-realistic fights since Bourne Identity. Any wounds would bother Matt the next day or hinder him during the fighting. Again, a touch of realism that showed he wasn't invulnerable like some other superheroes and thus raised the stakes higher.

I didn't really follow the Daredevil news before it was released so I didn't know who was the showrunner. After watching some, I felt something familiar about the way it was shot and then I realized it was none other than Stephen DeKnight, who made one of my favorite guilty pleasures of all time, Spartacus. At this point, I was a bit concerned we'd be treated to some sort of gratuitous half episode fight or a orgy between Vanessa, Fisk and some random prostitutes. Fortunately, he seems to be pretty good at switching styles (that said, that car door decapitation... wow...) Just like in Spartacus, the main villain and other characters have their own stories to tell. The female characters, while less important, still better developed than I expected.

I think this show found a happy medium between the shinier, PG-13 version of Marvel Movies and mature HBO and Showtime shows. Even fight scenes, while numerous, mostly happen in the dark and less graphic. It started me thinking if this format would be suitable for some story set in SW universe.

    Bottom-line: A- and I want more!

How does the international expansion fit into that though? While there would be marketing and a small amount of technical costs, there is very little that would need to be done to roll out services to newer countries. That would mean that the slight loss from expenditure should be out-stripped by profit from new subscriptions that were never taken into account.

Wow, it is really awesome we have a "Netflix Investment Outlook & Financial Planning" thread instead of just discussing frivolous issues like why we did or did not enjoy a new series produced by the company.

    Oh, wait.

Yeah, imagine if we devolved it into a 5 page discussion of Spider-Man.

I binge watched the entire season on my day off last sunday and the finale Monday. Totally awesome way to spend your only day off. I don't regret it one bit.

Watched the last couple episodes last night. Really enjoy this show.

Had been musing how much I like Fisk and Wesley together, unusual for me to really like the villians and then bam! Karen shoots Wesley! Totally shocked and loved it!

To be honest, Wesley's misguided - if not supremely stupid - decision of leaving the gun on the table was a bit hard to swallow. I guess he was supremely overconfident that he was in control of the situation. However, if you have the only weapon in the room, it doesn't hurt one bit to NOT let go if it.

But, yeah, the folly of hubris. The downfall of many a man, good or bad. Still, he and Fisk had a fascinating dynamic. Shame he had to go so soon.

Are you telling me investors are never wrong about a hot stock? The reality is that their profits are down (lower than expectations), and that outside the U.S. the operation isn't profitable at all. There will be increasing competition in this market, and there's no particular reason that Netflix will be able to maintain its market share advantage as other big brands like HBO dive into this niche.

On the plus side, they claim that developing original content is more cost effective for the company than acquiring external content, and that the original content strategy is the main thing driving subscriber acquisition in the U.S.

With regards to the previous conversation about the costume, I was really impressed with the red suit. It looked more like a made-for-film suit than a television costume imo. Visually superior to the Flash's suit imo. Though that could also be because DD's suit was only seen in dark scenes that might have hid any blemishes.

Stop your complaining about Netflix and make your own damn thread. This is a thread for those of us that love Daredevil.

Anyone know when the next season comes out or is it next year some time?

I am going to make a prediction, that the newest Avengers movie will have some sort of seen where a prison is destroyed and the prisoners escape. Maybe even a small scene where you see Fisk being escorted away.

I agree. It sounds like Jabba#1 doesn't factor in OpEx vs CapEx.

Season 2 confirmed. So I'm guessing this'll take place after the Defenders miniseries, a sort of Phase 2 for the Marvel Netflixverse.

BTW I just watched episode 6.
I kinda really enjoyed the subplot with the Russian brothers. Also, nice to see how human they're treating Matt most of the time.

Eight episodes in, and this may be the best thing in the MCU.
