Just finished the Citadel mission arc with my soldier. Regarding an earlier post in this thread about that class having trouble with the restaurant ambush - uh, not if you have maxed-out adrenaline rush, disruptor ammo, and 15% bonuses to weapon and power damage. I had at least two occasions where I capped three mercs before the rest of them realized I was killin their d00dz Bond-style with that little gun. Archives with Wrex and Ash was even more of a rampage - I only unloaded my Typhoon once (Atlas); the rest of it I was content with the Executioner or my cute lil' Disciple. Counter-boarding the Normandy Ash had a comment about the crawlspace being a "murder hole" - well, she was right, except the murder was coming out of it. Combination of Ash's Typhoon, EDI's Hurricane, and my Piranha obliterated four mercs in the first seconds, then Ash and EDI took out a sniper and a heavy while I was flanking and I only shotgunned one poor specialist. Might have been a speed record for clearing the CIC. Yeah, that clone felt real dumb showing off his N7 Valkyrie versus the Inferno Machine Gun of Doom. Two of them, actually. Wasn't a very fair fight, even with the carnage spam (which I then demonstrated was much more effective when the target is already shieldless and on fire).

Citadel DLC is bullseye... Story, party, treamates, combat simulator-perfect... is Star wars and Mass effect...Killing combination... Drew Karpyshin is king... I hope he will return for ME 4.... My opinion is ME3 ending was destroyed because of leaks... Of course I would like to see (renegade option ending) Shepard in some of next Mass effects-4,5,6,7,8.... :)

ME3's ending wasn't destroyed because of the leaks, ME3's ending was destroyed because it sucked. Citadel DLC applies some salve to the wound, but you wonder why they couldn't come up with that level of quality for the LAST TEN MINUTES OF THE GAME. :D

Guys...I recently started to like the synthesis ending. Mostly because of the cutscene and narration of the Extended Cut, but I think...I may need help :p

I seriously need to play the entire ME trilogy, I haven't even played the first game, and figure out for myself why the majority of people seem to hate the ending.

I despised the original endings, they were pretty much identical, just copy-paste some different colours and they'll be fine, right?

The Extended Cut is much better, and while I know some have a problem with it thematically, it's hardly the worst ending of a series I've experienced. At least the 4 endings are wildly different.

I know! I was watching the PAX East Panel and they said they poured weeks into the Suicide Mission and criticizing every little detail to get it just right. And damn did they do their job great!

If they put that much effort into the finale of the 2nd game, I expected a lot more from the finale of the whole trilogy.

    Citadel on the other hand....

Started a New Game+ with my engineer, armed with a whole slew of weapons already at level V and over 296,000 credits of starter funds. Not too shabby - I took the 5% discount from the Reaper destroyer wreck in the Asgard system plus the funds from Mars and 40,000 creds worth of initial salvage to start upgrading guns. Managed to upgrade the N7 Valiant and N7 Piranha to level X and the M-7 Lancer and M-13 Raptor to level VII before Palaven; after Palaven I still have about 78,000 credits to burn. Might have to do some thinking about what gun gets leveled up next. The Valiant and Piranha are quite manageable weight-wise; my engineer was running around with a Lancer VII/Valiant X combo and a 158% cooldown bonus.

Also got ME3 Datapad now that I've gone and joined the 21st century (seriously; I stubbornly held onto a flip phone that was probably ten years old and decided to splurge on an iPhone after the battery died).

    Just finished the Miranda mission.
So far lost Legion & Morden but have everyone else on side to fight the Reapers.

Had to red-do the Geth-Quarian bit because I forgot to save the Admiral and so all the Quarians got pwned by Geth and then Tali went all dramatic and suicidy.
Forgot how big Geth Primes are, and having to fight 3 at the same time is evil.

Javik is an interesting character, a little blunt but still amusing :p

So much more Liara interaction in this game, next time I do a playthrough of all the games I'm going to romance her.

Lots of fun so far, even if much of it is fetch-and deliver missions.

I hope the endings won't ruin it all, but given what I know of them I'm not optimistic.

Geth Primes can be a pain because of that damned siege pulse. In the combat arena I find it's not uncommon for a squadmate to get hit while popping out of cover to shoot; the first hit staggers them back from cover and the next two have a good chance of taking them down. Otherwise I find them and Atlases to be not that bad. Of course, if you're an engineer or infiltrator ... time to have fun with sabotage.

I've got my NG+ engineer playthrough through the Geth dreadnought; one more mission and I should have enough creds to finally get the N7 Typhoon up to level X. Left that for later in the game because even fully upgraded with ultralight materials it's a tad bulkier than I like and the only squadmate I have with it in that playthrough is Garrus. Obviously with my soldier and sentinel that puppy's gonna be the first thing to get the upgrades. So far I have the N7 Piranha, N7 Hurricane, N7 Valiant, Krysae, Disciple, Particle Rifle, M-13 Raptor, M-97 Viper, and M-77 Paladin all at level X. M-7 Lancer is at level VII and is pretty much my default weapon for everything but sniping.

The ending sucked. Nothing BioWare did (unless they changed it completely) would have make it look good.

You spend the first game trying to stop Sovereign to get the control of Citadel, because of he does, he will call other Reapers which will destroy the galactic civilization.

You defeat a baby reaper in the second game for the same reasons.

And it turns, that the master of the Reapers (who is one of the biggest Deus Ex machina) was all the time in Citadel which essentially contradicts the other 2 games. Giant plothole.

Let's not talk about the choices that didn't matter, the three same endings, and the total **** that happened in the last scenes.

In fact even the entire game wasn't anywhere near as good as it was supposed to be.

The Extended Cut made it acceptable and improved those scenes with Joker and your teammates, but they didn't improve the fact that the ending still contradicted everything good about the trilogy.

    Language.

Mass Effect 3 is my favourite of the trilogy. It is one of the most emotional games I've ever played, and held a world where I really cared about it's characters. The dark storyline of the third game really worked, I thought, in the context of the threat the Reapers posed.

The lighter moments on the Normandy and on the Citadel with your squadmates are just fantastic, and were enhanced by the dark content surrounding them.

Add the Extended Cut, Leviathan, Omega and Citadel to the mix, and you've got a very impressive game. This is one game where I'd say the DLC really improved it's overall quality.

    Show Spoiler
Priority: Earth sucks apart from the final conversations with the squadmates though. Nowhere near as thrilling as the Suicide Mission. Original endings were inexcusable. Lack of Harbinger is just perplexing.

In the end, the last 20 minutes of the game don't ruin my enjoyment of the other 70 hours. For some people, it does.

And there's where I have a problem. The amount of content that was cut (or should have been included since day one) and resold later is inexcusable.

From Ashes? Cut from the main game and sold as $10 day one DLC. And what we got was still a watered down version.

Extended Cut? The absolute bare minimum "fix" for the ending possible, and contains scenes that should have been in the game from the start, regardless of your opinions on the ending.

Leviathan? Back story for the Reapers and gives foreshadowing to CataKid? You bet I think that should have been in the main game from the start.

Omega was another bit of content cut from the main game and resold later as a bland, buggy, $15 escapade. One that I might add that in the original draft, had Omega has a mini-hub, and Zaeed Massani?

Between those four, that's $35 total, over half the price for the base game itself. You shouldn't have to spend over half the original price on stuff that should have been included from the start. Bare in mind, none of these fix any of the issues still plaguing the game: the Ending, Priority Earth being bland and uninspiring, auto-dialogue, Tali's face "reveal", plotholes that a Reaper could fly through, choices not mattering in the slightest, the numerous bugs/glitches that still haven't been fixed, among others. That does not sound like $95 worth to me.

It is indeed a very emotional game, I have never felt such love for characters and emotion for their fates as I have playing ME3. I guess 100+hours of gameplay will do that, but they are very well-written characters overall.

So, I literally just finished my first run of the game (with the Leviathan, Extended Cut & From Ashes DLCs included to enhance the story and then I added Omega towards the end before the final assault on Cerberus because I thought it fitted well at that point).

I chose the Destroy ending in the Citadel, and I have to say I didn't really mind what happened in it. I knew EDI would die as a result of what I did, and up until the end with the N7 dogtag and the two people standing on a planet (which seemed totally pointless) I thought it turned out as I expected. The galaxy started to rebuild and the various races celebrated their victories and the Reapers were destroyed, it's fine that what becomes of your shipmates is not revealed because Shepard was the focus. I'm sure it could have been far worse, I haven't tried the Synthesis or Control endings yet.

I get the issue with the Catalyst/AI thing having been in the Citadel the whole time, that was silly but I don't think it undermines everything that happened beforehand.

I just have one important question. The periodic online authentication (10 Days) requirment for playing Mass Effect, the original game. Is it still there or is is gone?

Which platform? As far as I know on PS3, they could be always checking my authentication. <.< >.>

EDIT: Nvrmnd, original ME. My mistake.

As far as I know, with the PC version of ME1 I've never seen any indication of online authentication.

Going on a gun-upgrading spree with my NG+ engineer. One of the interesting things is how many options power classes have with high-level guns; if I wanted to I could have my engineer running around with an ultralight-modded Typhoon X/Executioner X loadout and a 121% cooldown bonus. Instead, I've often got her with a Lancer VII (saving Citadel for next-to-last) and a Paladin X that adds up to a 189% bonus. Finding myself relying less on powers and more on dakka.

Also upgraded the M-11 Suppressor to level X, and that thing is nasty with a scope and heavy barrel. Managed to finish off a damaged Banshee on Mahavid with a burst of long-range headshots.

I got the original 360 version when it came out. I don't recall seeing anything like that.

Well, have just bought Mass Effect on PSN and started the 11GB dowload! That's going to take a while.

Be interesting to work my way through this and then er-play ME2 with the new character from the first game.

As for ME3, ohhh, I'm hesitant given all I've seen about it, really want it to be less than a tenner new, which it's getting near to. Anyone know if an Ultimate / GOTY-type edition is in the works?

ME2 got a semi-GOTY edition because of it's later release on PS3, but I doubt there will be one for ME3.

Yeah, I think the closest to a "GotY Edition" for ME2 is probably the PS3 version with Overlord, Kasumi, and Lair or the Shadow Broker (I think that's what it has anyway). The WiiU version of ME3 has both Javik, Genesis 2 (for what it's worth), and the EC, but I doubt will ever see Leviathan, Omega, or Citadel. I also doubt there will be any sort of "GotY Edition" for ME3, given the game's... divisive reputation. That and EA.

For there to be a GOTY version of ME3, I think you first need to have the game win several GOTY accolades. And I don't think that happened. At all. :p
