A list of things similar in the production and story of 'The Matrix' and 'Star Wars OT':

    1. Both star a dark-haired actress called Carrie.

    2. No pre-film credit sequence.

    3. Morpheus is a bit like Obi wan

    4. The Oracle is a bit like Yoda.

    5. Both spawned blatant rip-off TV shows:

    Battlestar Galactica and Dark Angel

    6. Both are similar to previous comic-book runs:

    Star Wars = New Gods

    Matrix = the Invisibles

    7. Both are about a scruffy rebellion taking on a machine-fixated oppressor.

    8. Er . . .

    9. Um . . .

    10. Both are better than 'Silverado'.

I don't get #5. How was the Dark Angel show a rip-off of the Matrix?

You did leave out the best similarity between the 2.

They both have a hero who came from humble beginnings, and they both had to "believe" in order for their superhuman abilities to come forth.

I agree with Devilanse on what exactly is the key comparison between the two are. However Neo is a little more cooler than Luke  (He's a bad@#$ gun slinger and Luke's a whiny teen).

Another commonalitie(sp?) I can conjure off the top of my head is how each world that is depicted in both film's is under oppression and tyranny of some sort. ;)

The Matrix control's one realm while the Galactic Empire control's the other.

And a tid bit correlating with that would be both are under the iron fist of intimadating "bad guys", the stormtroopers and Agent's. ;)

    Write some more up!

SaberGiiett7, your comparison of Agents and Stormtroopers ends there. One can't shoot to save its life, the other dodges bullets (and probably blaster shots too).

Both GL and the Wachowski's based their stories on a classic hero formula - mediocre guy gets told by a guide that he has to grow up and save the world. Both have some Far Eastern influences.

Here's one to bake your noodle: Is the Architect/System to Neo as DV is to Luke? Both deliver the twist to our hero - did the System create Neo?
