A hardcore fan base of millions may disagree with you. Regardless, it's for the best. As Internets said, video game movies suck. It's a Postulate and Law.

Moreover, I hope this movie makes a killing, and then they greenlight a Ringworld movie because it gets pitched as "Elysium with a bigger torus."

Until it's not. The moment "video game" movies stop being "video game" movies is the moment they will have a chance at being awesome. The same went for "comic book" movies.

I take back what I said earlier ever so slightly. The Silent Hill movie was extremely faithful to its source material, and the production values and set designs were something out of one of David Lynch's or Herzog's nightmares.

It's also one of the few movies where Sean Bean doesn't die some horrible death.

I'm one of the fans. I would pay to see a Halo movie. But chances are very good that I would regret it afterwards.

I'd go see a Halo movie. The lore of that Universe is cool.

This. The Nolan Batmovies by and large succeeded because Nolan didn't treat them like 'comic book' movies. (especially The Dark Knight)

Some comic books are too farfetched to not treat in a stylized way, though. The Punisher works easily. Ghost Rider, no.

Fair enough. Utter Disappointment is a very real risk we'd face with such a project because so many things can (and most likely will) go wrong if the project isn't treated with care or respect for the lore.

If by cool you mean bland, uninteresting recycled nonsense, then yeah it's pretty cool.

Video game movies are bad for a reason: the source material. In general, video games have pretty horrible writing. Their writers are, on the whole, "bad".

there's not some bizarre curse to video game movies; they're just not good stories, usually.

Peter Jackson was going to produce, Blomkamp was going to direct. Anyone can stumble, but i doubt the combo of thse two would have made a bad Halo film. Bland/uninteresting..uh..yeah you probably looked at the wrong wiki, looked through the wrong book(s), or did neither but vomited out 2 cents anyway.

Trite, uninspired military sci-fi. Insectoid enemies, super soldiers, lost Elder Aliens...

It might host an interesting storyline or two, I won't deny that, but the setting itself is the sci-fi equivalent of fantasy's "magic world with elves and dwarves". It won't make a Halo movie interesting just by itself.

A Halo movie would make trillions and trillions of dollars if it had lots and lots of 'splosions.

This. Halo is basically the Star Wars of video games.

Meh. I'd say Mass Effect would be the SW of video games or it's just a blatantly and shamelessly obvious SW rip-off.

In what way does mass effect rip off Star Wars?

Mass Effect is a clone of their very own KOTOR games. You have a fighter class, a wizard class, a thief class, biotic powers are a substitute for The Force, and you even have a scale for doing good and evil and everything in between.

I think Star Wars video games are the Star Wars of video games.
