MOMA is cool. Except their gift shop was selling LOMO cameras at extortionate prices.

Isn't Warhol's work being displayed at the Tate Modern right now.

The thing about Warhol as that although no one really understood the repoduction and pop thing at the time...they were still contained in an enviroment which was familiar to the viewer..ie you hung them on the wall...and love him or hate him..but I reckon with the body of work he produced there is something there for everybody....also the man could draw a mean pair of shoes

it would seem to me now a days that anything can be art as long as the artist can come up with enough psuedo intelectual B.S. to back up why the "tooth paste lid on its side" represnts the working class stuggle to overcome its on short comings in a historical context when blah blah blah etc. I like the Haywane by constable myself and if I ever make it rich i'm gonna by the original

Alot of art nowadays is based on psychological interpretation and not about whether you can draw, paint or sculpt. artists used to paint to show the world through their eyes, flashing lights on and off in a room takes no imagination.

Sculpture and architechture have been classed as art for years too even though they've never actually been hung on a wall but yup, I reckon people will point and laugh at the undmade bed in years to come.

People were horrified by Warhol(genius) but they also understood @ the same time that what he produced actually required a degree of artistic talent.

People are horrified @ modern artsists today for the exact same reason that it doesn't take artistic genius to have sex in a bed, jump out of it and shove it in the middle of the Tate.

But it does take genius to recognise that life is art. Even the simplest things captured in the right light can be beautiful. Art is in the eye of the beholder.

Even if we all know a bag of shyte when we see one.

But could you have thought of it?

I once saw a blank canvas at the RA. The blurb said that a picture was painted and then the artist stripped the paint off layer by layer because he wanted it to represent himself peeling of the layers of his psyche. [face_plain]

I blame the 'right on' attitude that was shoved down art student's throats through the late 80's and 90's...

Bloke's exploring the meaning of masculinity and woman claiming back their vagina's ( from whom?)

The amount of right on girls I knew at college..who just kept getting their tit's out for every bloody piece..

I'm with Arun on this one. I like artists who can draw or paint nice pictures.

Sticking a 50p to the floor is not art in my opinion.

Just cos something is crap doesn't mean it isn't art. I think the problem is that a lot of people say "that's not art!" just cos they don't like it.

If the 50p sticker had a genuine message they were trying to cenvey then it's art. The fact that the 50p sticker is a pretentious tw@ and that the stuck 50p is complete crap doesn't stop it being art. Its just crap art.

Yes I could have thought of it. I have actually done it myself, when I was a mere child. yep, I switched the lights on and off in a room. man! am I a genius!! I can't believe I missed my calling.

I wish you lot were with my last night....

I remember seeing an exhibition in London about paranoia...and there was this one thing..which was two pieces of paper one was scribbled in black ink..saying stuff like someone is following me...etc...and the other document was an offical record done by a private investigator..the artist had paid a PI to follow them..

I thought that was pretty good..

Wasn't the whole 50p stuck to the floor game invented for small children by Jonathan King?
