Bah. I wish that every idiot who goes around with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart, so he should [face_plain]

New Year is pretty pointless. We don't celebrate the first of any other month. All you do is treat it as some kind of milestone where you make up "resolutions" which a) you could have made on any other day and b) you never keep anyway so it's all pretty pointless.

Birthdays are ok, though I only "celebrate" mine cos the kids like it.

New Year is an excellent excuse to throw a party! :D

As for stupid resolutions and stuff, I don't do that. No point in making a promise I don't intend to keep.

Ah, okay. :) I don't make resolutions, either; they seem like an interesting idea, but ja, if you're not going to keep them, then - pointless. Still, celebrating New Year is fun ;) and cheese fondu is tasty.

You sound very frustrated about Christmas and New Year, Hal. Sorry to hear this. :(

I had a talk about Christmas and how to avoid that it turns out in stress every year, since that seems to be usual for most families. In the end of the talk we agreed that a) there's no way out and b) maybe avoiding stress by doing just what you want on Christmas (aka completely different things / non-traditional) and not taking it too serious. That works for me so far. :)

Normally I don't do resolutions as well, since I know that I won't keep it mostly and why should I wait for New Year to start those resolutions? Tomorrow is a better day. :p

Aye, I really can't stand Christmas. All that effort just spent on one day because that's what "we should do" is just ridiculous, plus all the stress that it causes is just obscene and it all come down to "this is what you should do". It completely baffles me, and yet I'm stuck in continuing it because of the kids and what they expect, mainly due to peer pressure.

I'll agree on the Christmas bit (mostly 'cause I don't celebrate). But I worked retail last year on both the Saturday before Christmas and Christmas eve - it was insane and I turned into a real grinch. Plus, trying to figure out what to get for whom is really hard and stressful (and not easy on the wallet). And it's always been that day where everyone is with their families and I'm stuck in a nearly empty Chinese place.

But I got to spend it with my family this year :D

New Years is also not a big deal (never been old enough to go out for it). I love birthdays, though :D It's just fun to break up the everyday.

I've always found New Years a bit depressing. My friends all get hot dates and go party, I had a date to go be in Time Sq one NYE and we broke up just before the tickets were bought. He was a jerk anyway.
