I have reasonably good grammar, though, and when so inspired, can use WORD's spellcheck!

 

I used to use IESpell, which was an inbrowser spellcheck, but then I started using a different browser. Which blocks the JC banner ads. A reasonable tradeoff, I guess.

However, it seems that much of this is because of comet, with most flames coming from him rather than the rest of us, though a few here may occasionally rise to the bait.

The mods had to expect some of this when they selected him. However, I do not support a free-for-all flame fest in here. Nor do I think it will be that way once comet is gone.

So while your concerns are valid, you really won't have to worry about them very much, since comet will be gone soon enough.

This thread is a real turd. Yuuzhan_Vong_Warrior started out by declaring that the thread "is not an anti-war thread or anything". He later says "Well, I guess I'm just trying to inform people that they were lied to and supported this war on false pretenses." I love to watch people contradict themselves before they can even get a reasonable discussion off the ground.

He's also wrong about the 9/11 commission and Iraqi links to terrorism. The commission found no direct association in the 9/11 attacks, but they did not in any way state that Iraq had no ties to terrorism. Indeed, Hussien wrote checks to the families of Palestinian terrorists. Several known al-Queda associates and affiliates were known to be in Iraq with the tacit blessing of the government. There was a terrorist training camp and Salmon Pak, and an al-Queda affiliated group operaitng freely in northeastern Iraq. Czech intelligence operatives report that Mohanned Atta met with a high-ranking Iraqi diplomat in Prague in the spring of 2001, and the Iraqi consulate's own visitor records support that theory at least superficially.

The reason we went to war is because Iraq was in direct violation of numerous UN resolutions regarding Iraq's development, destruction, and declaration of WMD. With a history of aggression against US forces in the region, a thwarted assassination attempt against a former US president, a history of using WMD against his own people and his neighbors, Hussein's unwillingness to submit to UN demands, and the new realities of a post-9/11 world, President Bush had a primary obligation to protect American interests. Knowing all that he knew (corroborated by Russian and British intelligence, among others), Bush made a decision appropriate to the information he was presented. Indeed, John Kerry has recently stated that he still would have acted against Iraq, even knowing what he knows now about the flawed intelligence.

So why don't you just say that the reason you started the thread is because you hate Bush? Why go through the act of making a war-based argument that is, in reality a double standard? Why not start a thread demanding an explanation from John Kerry and John Edwards for voting to authorize force? Why omit from your condemnation of the war the facts regarding Iraq's history and contemporary ties to terrorism? Why not look at the greater picture and evaluate the risk to US interests, foreign and domestic, that are inherrent in the possession of WMD by a madman bent on harming US interests?

Stop playing your sad game and simply admit the real reason that you hate Bush, whatever it is. Don't act under the guise of honest discussion when you are so blatantly biased and hypocritical.

And dp4m the point was not the concentrated fighter tactics did work, it's that they did and were hardly ever used by the Empire.

Realistically each ISD should be able to have three squadrons of fighters protecting a squadron of bombers with another squadron in reserve.

Since the TIE bomber can actually carry a higher payload then most all rebel fighters, there's no reaosn they should be able to easily crush opposing cap ships.

Except what actually happens in the novels is that Imperial squadrons are released into combat individually letting them be savaged by superior fighters as small groups instead of grouping them all togeather and sending them out to fight with an actual purpose instead of just "go shoot up *****".
