Gee, what a shame we will no longer get to see Michael's weekly TO update, or him picking the Cowboys seventeen times out of seventeen games.

I heard that announcement this morning, but neither Sportscenter, nor that link says what conditions he's left ESPN under. He could have jumped ship for the NFL Network for all we know.

Goodbye and good riddance for all I care. Even if he's going to another network like the NFL network, I still won't have to watch him.

He's an acquired personality. I'm able to stomach him because he's a staple in local sports around here. I could see how some people wouldn't like him though, and there are certainly enough people that are vocal about it. So, chances are, it was probably a firing, it's just a little brow raising that ESPN wasn't more specific about the situation if they felt it warranted an announcement at this time.

I wasn't one who cared enough to complain vocally (though you're right, there are plenty of people who did), but I didn't care for him at all. Won't miss him a bit.

It's about time. He's the worst commentator I've heard on sports since Tim Hardaway was an NBA commentator on ESPN. Michael Irvin has no analytical acumen and his firing or dissociation is welcomed here.

So is it simply a matter of not picking up the option to make room for Parcells or is there something else afoot?

No, I think you got it: the rumor going around is that Tuna is coming back to ESPN.

hmm, one would think that they'd want to get rid of Ditka first since they would have one coach too many on that squad.

Unless they just want to see if Ditka and Parcells kill each other.

    I might buy a Ditka-Parcells death match on Pay-Per-View

He wasn't fired, they just didn't re-up his contract.

    I'm glad he's gone though.

Wow, no one left at ESPN to tell us how great Michael Vick is and how he'll revolutionize the QB position.

Ditka is an idiotic stiff who really doesn't know jack. If Parcells is hired, he'll at least breath some knowledge and excitement into that show.

Meh, give me Cowher's analysis on ABC over Parcells.

Can't say I'll miss Irvin any.

Don't you mean CBS since ESPN is owned by ABC?;)

Parcells wasn't bad wehn he was on ESPN years ago.

As for Irvin, shame they can't revoke his election to the HOF, too.

You can say a lot of things about Michael Irvin, but he's still a Hall-of-fame talent. How do you keep a guy out of the hall that can do that many things with strippers and cocaine?

I'm certainly not disputing his place in the Playa/Pimp Halll of Fame.

This is a good first move. Now all ESPN needs to do is replace the Monday Night crew (kornheiser, Theissman and Tirico) and replace them w/ Gary Nessler, Jaworski and Vermiel. Then ESPN would have probably have the best pre-game and announcing crews of all the stations.
